Companies Stop Doing Business With Illinois: They Don't Pay

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois’ precarious budget situation has again prompted a company to stop doing business with the state.
Records show the Illinois Department of Corrections was forced to scramble this week when a vendor refused to deliver foam food trays to Menard Correctional Center because it hadn’t been paid.
Industrial Soap Co., which holds the master contract for the foam trays, “will not deliver due to delinquent invoices,” prison officials noted.
The St. Louis-based vendor wouldn’t discuss the contract situation Tuesday, but records show the company is owed about $166,000 dating to last year.
In order to avoid gaps in meal service, state officials gave another company a $36,000 emergency contract to keep the foam trays in stock.
The trays are needed to serve meals to the 3,400 inmates because they have been mostly locked in their cells since mid-October due to rising violence in the maximum-security facility.
The state is facing a $13 billion deficit that could grow larger by next year. The current backlog of bills is listed by Comptroller Dan Hynes at nearly $5.6 billion. The state owes at least one vendor for services dating back to March.

  2. What to hell? Make the convicts wash their foam dishes off and reuse them. The nitwits in illinois should ask sherriff Joe Arpaio for some pointers.

  5. And while you're at it, let the bankers rip off the usa so bad, they bankrupt it, and do nothing about it, put the guy who stole $5.00 in jail and let the guys who steal Billions get away with it. Because that is exactly what the usa does.

  7. 12:03 - Please buy yourself a one way ticket to Moscow. I'm sure Mr. Putin would welcome you and your Gen Y radical Marxist ilk. The tide started turning on Nov. 2nd so begin to deal with the new reality. Americans are starting to take their country back from lefties like you!

  9. Ahhh we're ALL to blame here...And as so we'll all take a bite out of the sh*t sandwhich when the time comes...Some may have this and that or have prepped food and guns etc but in the end we'll all take a bite.

    Boomers = smug...Gen X = materialistic...Gen Y = No viable skills...If there is a Gen Z they seem to be a combination of all three.

    However look at what we make popular...Jersey shore, electronic trinklets, easy sex, easy drugs, easy drinking and the thought that we're all special even if we don't come 1st-2nd or 3rd.

    Screw that...You take away the drive and ambition to be 1st then we all become nothing special...As for those yelling back and forth here...How are your kids doing?

    I've seen alot of crimnals come from cop families and whores come from religious families...So be honest with yourself can you talk crap to others if you haven't clean your own house?

  10. 10:04 - America's House got cleaned out on Nov 2nd. Now it's time to expose and clean out the rest of the radicals, progressives, socialists, leftists and statists who have brought our country to the verge of destruction. They tried it in the 60's and 70's and they're trying it again. We stopped them then, we'll do it AGAIN.

  11. I used to have a furniture business and would sell to the state here, the way they work is this, get yearly budget and make sure to spend that amount and more, that way they(my dealings were with parks and recreation) can go back to state legislature and show that they need more funding next year as some bills are unpaid, a boom times example and states still are stuck in boom time spending spree mindsets-they just don't get it. So when did state or most any gov spending reduce in size and when does spending growth end...never, unless vendors, as now, simply stop selling to them except for payment upfront, would be the only way to go unless they enjoy waiting 9 months, or more, and with some states now they may not receive full payment.

  13. Nov 2 we start taking our country back!? LOL That's a good one. So the repubs are better than the dems? Is that it? Or are we putting in place quality people who really do have an understanding of the Constitution? From the ads I could stomach; we are a long ways from righting this ship. I'm afraid we are listing badly, with no righting in sight... As to religion and other forms of mind control; keep it to yourself, I don't give a f*ck about what deity you believe in. Keep that $hit to yourself. And may that deity help you if you cross that $hit into my path...
