True Toll of Deepwater Disaster May Be 50 Times Worse Than Thought

The recorded impact of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on wildlife may have severely underestimated the number of deaths of whales and dolphins, according to a new report.

The Deepwater Horizon disaster of 2010 devastated the Gulf region ecologically and economically. However, a new study published in Conservation Letters reveals that the true impact of the disaster on wildlife may be gravely underestimated. The study argues that fatality figures based on the number of recovered animal carcasses will not give a true death toll, which may be 50 times higher than believed.

  1. So BP oil company owes about 50 times more money in damages then they have paid. That is only for the sea life and when damages to humans and livelihoods maybe the 50 times would go up even more. BP just another criminal corporation.

  2. Any one that believes one word that anyone from the government says is a fool. If you assume that they always lie then you will be able to determine the truth when you need to know. It is in your best interest to never trust anything coming from the government, republican, democrat, left, right, any of it. They always lie every time. If you want to survive then pay heed to what I say. Trusting the government is certain death.

  3. You can mostly blame the government for this big lie. They did everything they could to coverup the true extent of damage to the Gulf region and the World. How does anyone really know the leak is sealed? I bet its still leaking oil.
