34 Million on food Stamps-Population of the Entire Country of CANADA

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - For the first time, more than 34 million Americans received food stamps, which help poor people buy groceries, government figures said on Thursday, a sign of the longest and one of the deepest recessions since the Great Depression

Enrollment surged by 2 percent to reach a record 34.4 million people, or one in nine Americans, in May, the latest month for which figures are available.

It was the sixth month in a row that enrollment set a record. Every state recorded a gain in participation from April. Florida had the largest increase at 4.2 percent.

Food stamp enrollment is highest during times of economic stress. The U.S. unemployment rate of 9.5 percent is the highest in 26 years.

  1. I once went 5+ days without a meal but still wouldn't go to a shelter or get stamps. Never understood the sponger leech mentality.

  2. I've also went several days without food and after time it isn't all that difficult as long as you drink enough water.

People have a sense of entitlement in this country, the people believe they have a 'right' to eat among other things. Once the grocery stores start emptying out we will see mass panic. As Gerald Celente said,(paraphrasing) "Once people lose everything they lose it."

Most people don't even know hot to grow their own food which is one reason why this depression will be FAR worse than the Great Depression.

  3. I'm going to get food stamps!

It's all the fashion now. I need to be fashionable , you know.

Also, they give you this credit card like thing that nobody on line behind you knows you're not using a credit card. That's so awesome.

  4. Food Stamps? No way! I want Free Food. And I know where to get it, and Housing as well. Free. And clothing and picks and shovels. It is not far off in the future either. I will also promise a scheduled lifestyle where you don't even have to think for yourself. Not only all that but a bonus will be free flu shots. Just wait a bit and you can visit your nearest FEMA Detention Center.

  5. Ahem! If you are going to quote the greatest trends forecaster ever:

"When people have lost it all, and they have nothing to lose, they lose it."

GC really won me over when he said his morality doesn't allow him to support the murder of innocents in Iraq and Afghanistan. A finance guy with a heart.

  6. That's why I said paraphrasing lol! I knew the gist of it...anyways I really like Gerald Celente...he seems like a great guy and I love his passion. It's almost like he gets angrier and angrier the longer he talks about this junk system.

Celente and Chapman are my two favorite economic guys.

  7. Peter Schiff is also good, but is more concerned with running his company then simply spreading truth like Gerald Celente (you don't get rich selling a newsletter).

Max Keiser is worth listening to also. Anyone who calls Goldman Sachs scum is ok in my book.

For deeper research on the big picture there is none better than Jordan Maxwell. Not a great speaker, but 40+ years of pure knowledge.

  8. I really enjoyed Celente in an interview on youtube a few months back where he was first predicting how bad things were for the retail business. I guess he lives in NYC and was in an upscale store where he bought a $200.00 jacket for $12.50. The little guy was estatic on that!
He was showing how the stores are trying to rid themselves of inventory at any cost. I am thinking of subscribing to the "Trends Journal" that he offers. It is a bit pricey for me but it might be money well spent. You can go to his website and download the September 2008 issue for free as a sample. The guy is "right on" just as everyone says.
Gerald also has a blog you can look at, but you need to be registered to comment on it. It is mostly videos of his interviews on various TV shows. Gerald makes no bones about the upcomming depression.

  11. "Peter Schiff Analogies" is one of the classic videos. Pure truth mixed with comedy. He knows that 99% of the people he is taking to are idiots so the way he reaches them are simple analogies - funny.

The "Asians and the American on the deserted island" is my favorite. The American's job was to sit in the sun and eat!!! lol Great stuff.

  15. For those who won't take food stamps..think about it this way: When you pay taxes you pay for Food Stamps. It is tax $$$ that support programs like this.

In other words you're too proud to collect what you've paid for?

I have a friend that is too proud to collect unemployment. Can't get him to understand this is a benefit of his employment. He sees it as begging.
