10's Of Thousands To Lose Their Jobs as Thousands Of Dealerships Close

NOTE: The map on the left are the Chrysler dealerships presently located in the US!

WASHINGTON — General Motors Co. and Chrysler will reconsider decisions to close thousands of dealerships as part of a compromise meant to stave off federal legislation that would require them to keep the showrooms open.
The decision by the two automakers, announced Thursday, raises the prospect of new life for some of the more than 3,000 dealerships that were slated to close as part of the broad auto industry restructuring. Dealers have loudly protested the decisions, and some said Thursday that the policy is merely an attempt by the automakers to placate Congress.
Just how many dealers could potentially be allowed to stay open remains unclear. The companies did not provide any estimates. Dealers involved in talks this fall with the automakers said likely only a handful of lots targeted for closure would survive, despite the new policy.
The plans of GM, based in Detroit, and Chrysler Group LLC call for face-to-face reviews with dealerships and binding arbitration for those who challenge closure of their showrooms. Chrysler said its review process would start Thursday while GM said talks with dealers would begin in mid-January.

  2. Our owners have instructed their media to bombard us with stories about Tiger Woods, ball games, and American Idol so we won't think about the slow death economy, our occupations/invasions, etc.

Works for them every time. Rome had their colosseums, we have our TVs and kiddie entertainment.

Jordan Maxwell explained it best. Here kids - go outside and play while the adults stay inside and talk.

  3. Next Tuesday B.O. is giving a speech about how the economy and jobs are improving and that things are getting a lot better.

This will be believed by the sheeple and may buy us more time. The purpose is to encourage lemmings to get out their and do their part over the next three weeks. Get out that credit card and spend.

  4. As horrific as a true restructuring (complete demise of Chrysler and liquidation and breakup of GM) would have been. It would be less costly in the end--without government debt and intervention. This will be the end result regardless--it will just take longer--with the taxpayer holding the bag!

  5. 12:14 that is correct. Just like Peter Schiff said if the mob, er, government, would get out of the way a more efficient business model would have replaced GM.

Now we have Government Motors financed by your hard earned tax dollars and money printed out of thin air.

  6. "Have a seat and a cup of coffee--we want to put you in one today." " What will it take to earn your business? Wait here while I go talk to my manager."
(the best one of all:--) "Your really going to like what we will give you for your old car!"

  7. The government has everything on its "To Purchase" list, including a religion, which will become The Religion, and all competing ones will be outlawed, including atheism.
