Gov: Budget Failure Could Cause NY Depression

(snippet)
During a town hall meeting at Brooklyn Borough Hall, Mr. Paterson made scant reference to his precarious political position during an hourlong question-and-answer session before a largely friendly audience that greeted him with a standing ovation. He instead focused on the state's beleaguered budget, going so far as to predict that New York could fall into a depression if drastic steps to control spending were not taken soon.
“The reality is that this is where New York state can move this year if we don't act, and act now,” he said. “What I came here to tell you today is that we are crossing that Rubicon between recession and something else far worse, if my colleagues in the legislature and I can't close a $9.2 billion deficit.”

Mr. Paterson answered about a dozen questions from advocates on issues ranging from funding of senior centers to small businesses.
City Councilman Charles Barron, D-Brooklyn, praised the governor for having the “heart and guts and spine” to institute the so-called millionaire's tax last year and called for Mr. Paterson to further increase taxes on the wealthy and institute a stock transfer tax.
Without missing a beat, the governor responded that the real question was, “Am I [one of] the few governors who has the guts to stand up to Council member Charles Barron?”
Mr. Paterson rejected Mr. Barron's suggestion to hike taxes on wealthier New Yorkers, but said that he plans to open a dialogue with Wall Street executives about how the shift from paying more of their bonuses in stock rather than in cash has hurt the state's budget.

  1. New York, California and Florida Can become their own countries. I would like that. No more running the country with their electoral college votes. Who knows maybe we could even stop some of Americas infatuation with Hollywood idiots.

  2. Listen up people, we are in serious trouble. There is no place to run nor a place to hide. I strongly advise everybody to take the appropriate measure to move on a moment notice. Get the hell out of Dodge.

  3. 9:09,
"No place to run" followed by "get the hell out of Dodge." Run to where? These kinds of posts do nothing to encourage or prepare...they only spread the fear that has consumed you. No one has any idea what is going to happen. Even the news posted here is all over the place. Something bad is going to happen...but on the what, when, and how their is no consensus. Just stock up on everything because everyone is out to get us. Who to believe?

  4. 9:54 - I agree. Some people are prepping as though wild cantaloupe will be running in the streets of suburbia so we have to plan for hunting.

If/when something "bad" does happen - I suspect most people are going to be stuck in their suburban homes waiting for things to pass.

Makes it difficult to plan when you think about the number of people and and an unknown event(s). Not everyone can "Get the hell out of Dodge".

What strategy are others following to survive whatever might be coming down the pike?

  5. 98% of people will not be in their homes, they will be out trying to get enough food, water, gasoline and other supplies, as the rioting gets going, military troops will be out shooting looters and they will show it on tv to scare the hell out of people in their homes telling them not to go out, that martial law is in effect. the 2% that are prepared will watch on tv and be glad they were awake.

  6. 9:54 and 10:18 Agreed! I think we can face some pretty bad Hyperinflation and possibly food riots. The food riots will be because some of the inner city people will have trouble getting food if their food (welfare)program doesn't deliver like it once did. An enormous amount of teens in all major inner cities are unemployed and if their parents lose government or secular jobs they will have to eat. Thus the raids on stores. When that happens all the suburbanites will go their local stores and buy everything that is not nailed down. It will take a month to settle things down and get stores re-stocked. So, that is my opinion. Have enough food for a couple of months at least and I would have water and candles as well just in case. We are not a third world country and we will get through this. It will require some home protection and you will probably have to go to work in groups and armed to the teeth because car jacking and robberies by mass will probably be a problem. When people are scared and hungry they will do anything. The impact of our problem will take many years for recovery.

  7. 10:29 You could be right about troops firing on citizens, but I doubt it. It will be the cops and state patrol who will do that. The military will be shown on tv doing what they did during Katrina during the riots and store thefts... Watch! Which is probably good as they are capable of creating a blood bath. We don't operate the way you described in Iraq or Afghanistan so why here????

  8. One factor you guys forgot to mention is the militias. When the shtf militia membership will skyrocket. America is going to descend into a warlord/Uncivil war state. The military will divide into two factions. One will play ball with the globalist bureaucratic banking elites the other will side with the people and the good militias. America is a clusterfuck nation. Its going to end very bloody. They will fail to bring the NWO to us. 80% will except it but 20% of us will fight it. 20% is alot of people to fight a civil war. 60 million freedom fighters could save America but the elites have something planned.

  9. 9:54 here again....
11:22, Your sources? Your % of assuredness? What does your shtf look like and why? I am not saying it wont end badly but I am tired of claims with no support; wild claims with nothing to back them. And solutions are scares. I am prepping because the only consensus is that some s will htf but what should by food to ammo ratio be? Is this a depression or societal collapse? I don't think any of us know, not even the smartest among us.

  10. 1150 these scenarios have happened all through history, what makes us so special? Answer nothing, tptb want this and are slowly making it happen right now, just because it has not hit you yet, does not mean it is not happening, I know many homeless now who lost everything once they lost their homes, you are not too bright, probably a jesus freak, a denier time to wake up numbnuts

  11. 11:59, The name calling manifests your refined intellect and advances the conversation to a new level of civility and progress...Thanks. Your knowledge of my personal situation would be chilling if it wasn't totally inaccurate.

I am looking for answers...who are the powers that be in your opinion (because there is great variety on tptb) and how do they benefit from a collapse of our society (when some claim that they extract their wealth from our labor)? If it makes your day go better to call names again feel free...otherwise bring the info and I'll gladly listen.

  12. 10:59 You shouldn't assume that every person who maintains a religion is ignorant or stupid. I am not Mormon, but did you know the Mormons are preparing for this in mass. Did you know that the Mennonite and other similar sects will not even know anything is going down until people try to buy their food with gold. Most don't use gas or electricity. Religious people are not evil unless they choose to be. I think you will find that they will bandage you and give you food if you need it and they will blow your head off if you misbehave.

  14. 1150 - I agree. I can store food and water and ammo but I'm assuming I'm planning more for a breakdown in the supply chain and probably communications and not as much for an insurrection at the front door - so much discussion seems to be hyperbole. Gets one thinking it's time to order a tractor and start farming the back 40 (feet) -- that's not going to accomplish much and around here it is not realistic.

Maybe just plan so you won't have to leave your house for a couple of weeks until things settle down? I do think there could be riots in certain areas but I think other areas will be effected differently - and it will take some time before things get "back to normal" -- and "normal" will be something different in the future.

Suggestions of how to plan (or what to plan for) - just in case - are appreciated and I think helpful to most that read this blog.

  15. No one knows how bad things will get and for whom. All I know is that I've been stocking up on various foods and liquor. If nothing happens, at least I will have bought everything when prices were cheaper. If anything does happen, I won't starve and I can have some fun.

The problem is that as more and more people cannot find decent paying jobs, they will lose their homes, can't send their kids to college, can't pay their taxes, and will end up on some form of welfare--paid for by the middle class that still has a job. The rich do what they always do: find loopholes to avoid paying their share and bribe Congress to keep funneling them contracts and corporate welfare.

The next part of the problem is what is happening to the states. States cannot print money to solve their budget problems, brought on by all those people with no jobs or who can't earn enough money. So we will be taxed more but provided with less. You'll see more desperate people committing violent acts. I'm thinking you will see more local violence before we reach the point of national revolution, because the local problems will directly affect us first.

Meanwhile, I'm in the same boat as the rest of you: just waiting to see what explodes next.

  16. We Canadians are going to sit back and watch you Americans kill off each other one-by-one. Then, when each and everyone of you are pretty well dead, we're going to march in and take over without so much as firing one shot.

National division: you gotta love it!

    Bye now. :)

  17. 2:05 as a Canadian I'm a little smarter than your sorry ass. The US owns all of CANADA's resource rights since 1994. When the US runs out of ammo they walk across the border, take a few sips, some oil, a little electricity, rocks, and whatever else we have then scuttle back leaving us "high" and dry.

  18. 2:59,

I'm so sick and tired of your utter and complete nonsense. SU already!

BRITAIN, not America, owns Canada through the City of London bankers via DC, i.e. the same crowd that owns the Federal Reserve System. They are not Americans, you pin head.

Besides, HOW LONG do you think it would take Quebec to call Paris (a nuclear power) to tell America to piss off?

It is YOU who doesn't Know much.

Illuminati headquarters (Royal Institute of International Affairs) is Chatham House in London. Freemasonry is also based in London. America is an economic colony of Britannia because Americans, as a whole, including their politicians, are about as smart as you.

Canada is just fine, thank you very much. We are BRITISH EMPIRE.

It is the secret BRITISH EMPIRE that rules the world, not American.

P.S. The four largest banks in Britain are bigger than the four largest banks in America. GET IT?!?

    Bloody hell...

  19. Annotation for 3:13 post.

America is still in bankruptcy from Depression I. The receivers represent the creditors, which in this case are the international bankers headquartered in London, England.

Washington D.C. is effectively a city state owned by the British money men.

Doesn't matter that agreements show the CORPORATION of America as owner of Canadian assets. It's the British who own the Corporation of America.

And yeah, it's like that grasshopper.

P.S. There's no way in hell the British money men are going to allow a bunch of rebel goons to screw around with their precious Canada, the beginning of the British Empire.

  20. 1210 religious people for the most part are easily led sheep, they believe the writings of the common man and think a god told them to write it, total lunacy, you call people crazy who smoke weed, but it is you who are addicted to religion who are the real problem
