WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama suggested Wednesday that a new value-added tax on Americans is still on the table, seeming to show more openness to the idea than his aides have expressed in recent days.
Before deciding what revenue options are best for dealing with the deficit and the economy, Obama said in an interview with CNBC, "I want to get a better picture of what our options are."
After Obama adviser Paul Volcker recently raised the prospect of a value-added tax, or VAT, the Senate voted 85-13 last week for a nonbinding "sense of the Senate" resolution that calls the such a tax "a massive tax increase that will cripple families on fixed income and only further push back America's economic recovery."
For days, White House spokesmen have said the president has not proposed and is not considering a VAT.
"I think I directly answered this the other day by saying that it wasn't something that the president had under consideration," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters shortly before Obama spoke with CNBC.

I'm not a Bible thumper, but I do believe in biblical prophecy, and one end time prophecy dose describe a global war with 1/3 of the population dying. 1/3 of 6 billion people is 2 billion, last I checked. All the very obvious signs of the times point in that direction:
- People are pissed off.
- People are losing confidence in their country's governments.
- We have already seen looting and arson and violence in the streets of Greece.
- Celente predicted a that we as Americans were gonna get really pissed at the illegals and now we see the first indicators of it in Arizona where it will be a violation of state law to be in the USA illegally. If ICE won't kick them back to Mexico, Arizona law enforcement will.
- Americans want Americans to have first crack at jobs, not some guy from India with an H1B visa.
- Americans are buying guns faster than the factories can make them. I bought a .45 yesterday and I had to stand in line and wait my turn. I was also encouraged to buy ammo. I won't have the gun for 10 days, and the guy in the store could not assure me they would have any .45 cal ammo next week.
I have suggested many times, that everyone go to YouTube and look at the videos of the Los Angeles riots of 1992. I promise you is will happen again and it won't be centered in a small portion of Los Angeles.
Speaking on LA, the population is 10 million and the police force is just a bit under 10,000. Is that not 1 cop for every 1,000 people? Don't plan on them (the cops in your city) protecting you.
This VAT will be the last straw...
