U.S. Government Shuts Down 84,000 Websites, ‘By Mistake’

The US Government has yet again shuttered several domain names this week. The Department of Justice and Homeland Security’s ICE office proudly announced that they had seized domains related to counterfeit goods and child pornography. What they failed to mention, however, is that one of the targeted domains belongs to a free DNS provider, and that 84,000 websites were wrongfully accused of links to child pornography crimes.
As part of “Operation Save Our Children” ICE’s Cyber Crimes Center has again seized several domain names, but not without making a huge error. Last Friday, thousands of site owners were surprised by a rather worrying banner that was placed on their domain.

  1. Whenever the government slaps on some label like this people are always quick to believe it's because the government wants to protect them and there are no other ulterior motives.

Of course, many of us reading this website know better. Now, what was the real story? This was probably a test, in order to shut down news sites like this one and any other information that isn't what the government wants out there. I'm sure they'll go after "pirates" next and people still won't get it.

  2. By the end of this year, you will not even recognize this country. My Banker Friend told me if the people knew what was coming later this year, they would already be jumping off of buildings.

  3. 2:35 Yes, and your banker friend is probably quite correct too. How long do people actually think this teetering house of cards is going to maintain itself? Being from Canada, I can tell you that we are not insulated by any means and we will be going over the falls and into the maelstrom along with our US friends. The dealbreaker for us is going to be the sudden collapse of the real estate market-zip! gone! Simply astonishing!

  4. fool me once you wont fool me again. Wonderful things happen to those with patients. if somebody slips the gig all they wanted was quick restablishing of old ways. how many old ways are left now that goverment stole ways from people/ if people undertand they will realize how bad things are. Print money, fine. Keeo housing free would help. Get more buildings to open up, that gets jobs. Give people money printed keeps people happy. But goverment here only knows other ways. The other ways is about stealing from us. How long/ not long, cause what you reap is what you saw. - Rage against the Machine.

  7. It will be by the end of 2012. I didn't take those projections seriously, but now I do. It seems inevitable. It won't be because of some natural disaster or anything like that, it will be because of the unchecked greed of the elites.

And the stupid public that let it happen. Many of us tried to warn them, but we were laughed at and ridiculed.

  9. Thgis is very good 84,000website owners their friends and customers get a practical lesson in the arbitary limits of freedom of speech under the dictatorship of the patriot acts and "Homeland security" and how a full ,or partial "kill the internet" switch can easily be pulled on those who do not toe the official government line or views on anything from copyright law or leaving or limiting the
promotion of "pornography" to sites pointed to or linked to by google in return for cash from advertisers .
