One Big Lie: Job Market Statistics Manipulated

(snippet)
Job Market Statistics Manipulated

At the beginning of the year, official unemployment stood at around 10%.  This number of course does not include those people who are off unemployment benefits and still have not found jobs, or those people who are underemployed.  The Labor Department then announced their intention to revise their “birth/death ratio” method of calculating job loss, which would supposedly add a whopping 800,000 lost jobs to their books that were hidden before:
http://money.cnn.com/2010/02/04/news/economy/jobs_outlook/
Directly after this news was released, markets braced for a substantial increase in the unemployment percentage.  Yet, by some act of magic, the unemployment percentage fell to 9.7%!
http://www.epi.org/publications/entry/jobs_picture_20100205/
How is this possible?  Well, those of us who were hoping for greater Labor Department transparency (including myself) should have known better.  With the Labor Department, two-plus-two NEVER equals four…
As the EPI article above indicates, while the government has reportedly changed their dubious “birth/death ratio” method, they also at the same time changed their “home survey” method.  This survey is meant to give the Labor Department an overall view of unemployment percentages, but now the government has sharply reduced the number of households they actually survey, making the results more volatile and easier to manipulate.  This why even though nearly a million jobless people were added to the unemployment rolls, the government was still able to report a drop in unemployment percentages.  Sound like a dirty trick?  Yes, it is…

  1. My brother has 4 adult kids, 18-25, one has a job. The younger ones have yet to find a job. They are unemployed, yet the Labor Dept. would not likely include them, since they have been under the radar since finishing High School.

  2. I wanted to add to this economic thing the realization that many people of professions, or what they call their professions do so through the internet and can make it seem like they are bigger than they are. For example someone saying their profession is journalism could actually mean they own a worthless blog. Not including this blog owner or anyone that does have a blog, but there are many who make themselves feel big by saying their profession which is things they do and don't get paid for is related to their blog, "I'm a writer/editor/journlist/matchmaker/photographer/model/xyz-instructor/etc." - yet they may not have ever gotten a single job or dime for what they say they do/are.

If we could realize how dumb people are today and then take notice that many would use that as their occupation and list it, or other things they might do on the internet which is nothing compared to the real deal could distort statistics greatly.

To 8:50, I'm 22, my sister is 26, we worked some jobs since being teens and flopped around like most other young people do before needing to take them seriously. It has been about a year since we worked and there is absolutely nothing hiring... luckily we live near each other and have a very close and relatively large family that still has jobs.

  3. US middle class should contact Alan Grayson D-Fl, for example, or directly contact Tata Consulting Services in India to audit the BLS and the IRS. Compare salaries in 1999 to salaries in 2009. That's the unemployment rate. George W Bush and his dimwit US Labor Secretary Elaine Chao lied every month for 8 years.

  4. Younger people: join the military, like many did in the 60's recession and today. Get trained in something you can do when you get out in 3 or 4 years. The medical field is always hiring all over. Various trades are in demand. What's wrong with the high schools now days when they don't teach trades for those who aren't going to college in the last two years of school? The schools did this in the 60's and 70's and people went right to work. If not the military, go to a vocational school. Being older and retired comes sooner than you think. Kids way back left home at 18 and couldn't wait to be on their own.

  5. LAURA ...JOIN THE MILITARY? To get killed in a war that the elite enjoy watching from their TV sets as hundreds of 19 yr old kids DIE? ARE YOU INSANE? Get trained to DIE?

  6. 10:32 (Laura). Not sure if there is even going to be any retirement for the people who are retiring in droves RIGHT NOW. How long you think this will all last?

  7. 10:52 There are more killed on our roads every year than the total deaths in Viet Nam, or these gulf wars, or Korean war. People are killed in robberies in my town in convenience stores and other businesses, in nightclubs, etc. You and other slackers need to get a life and quit bummin' off parents, etc.

  8. There is always a dumb gun toting military hick on every blog. Anyone mindless to join the military to "fight" for a war, we nor they, have any idea what is about, needs to get their head chopped off. You fight, come home legless, then are homeless all within a month. Laura go join the front lines, you can add comments here as your tits get blown off.

  9. Laura you do realize that when the MILITARY advertises to "learn" something it is only a scam to join the war and get killed. You do know that don't you? All the 20 year old kids that learned something now have either one leg, dead, psychologically impaired for life, blown to pieces, homeless or just got screwed for military pension. Great post LAURA you feeble minded intellect.

  10. You dumb jerks 11:38, etc: I know parents (6)and classmates (3), whose kids were killed on our highways. I also know many vietnam vets and gulf war vets who are now productive, who came home safe (some never saw combat.) Homelessness is for morons, vets or otherwise. I discourage anyone from joining up if they can go to school. Joining up tho' beats being a bum on the streets selling drugs or hooking. Since there is no draft, kids must want to join up, maybe to kill Muslims??

  11. At least you guys know who "Laura" is. A loudmouth blowhard and possibly The CEO of Retard Inc? You betcha! Join the military? Almost the worst response on this blog so far.

  12. Laura, comparing the number of deaths by other means (car accidents) and going overseas to kill in the name of money and oil is a dumb and irresponsible statement. Apples and oranges to say the least.

  13. You know, technically, us 'Jesus Freaks' are the most traditionally anti-government, anti-CFR, anti-NWO types there are.

After all, it is our prophecies which tell you that they're going to shove an RFID microchip so far up your *** it lodges under the skin of your forehead.

    Laura is perhaps evil.

We massacred a million unarmed men and women retreating from Kuwait with cluster bombs in Desert Storm 1. The MSM helped tidy up so you wouldn't even know about that.
The reason so many of our soldiers commiting suicide is they hate the atrocities they've been ordered to commit.
I think I'd kill myself too if I was ordered to massacre a village and did so and then had to live with it. When you're 22 years old what
do you know about life and love? Nada.

Kids today are going to fix the problem of the existence of people like Laura, whether she knows it or not.

There's going to be one mighty large pow wow going down in the next couple of years.

  14. I must agree with Laura in the fact that the military is a good choice...It is what you make of it.

Want to be a killer of men and women? If you want and are feeble.

Want to learn a trade, help others and get a future? Then that's the path to go...I was offered medical school years ago based on my scores and to this day I wonder how my life might have changed...I know plenty of military people and the only "retards" I see are the ones that if they don't like your opinion then suddenly I'm a troll/a plant or evil.

Some of you have to look beyond yourselves...The military is more than bombs and planes and for many young people it's actually a way of installing things like organization and honor.

Anyone who screams about anything too loud isn't making a point but trying to use hyperbole to appear to be right.

You go Laura...Well except for that whole "kill muslims" thing...That's just uber creepy...Though she does have a point...Check out Europe and how Muslims are ruining it just by having huge number of kids.

  15. we have muslims in this country now, they are called mexicans, they are having more kids than anyone and we are all paying the bill

  16. Today I visited a local glass shop. I am building a display case for my AR-15. As I was waiting for my glass to be cut I read a newspaper clip the old gent had next to the register. I seems that MEDICAL DOCTORS kill more people every year than deaths by firearms. You stand a better chance of dying after visiting your doctor, than meeting a boogerman in a dark alley.

I really don't want my 11-year old son to join the military in 7 years, but as I see it, that will be the only job opportunity he'll have...

  17. Laura _ what's it like to be the smartest person in the room (on the board)? You are always full of good advise. A few months back you recommended moving to where the jobs are. And I guess that's possible if you live in your parent's basement. But if you have a lease or a mortgage that is upside down you aren't going anywhere.

Now you are recommending trades - I am in partial agreement on this one if you have a brain and skills trades can be great. But No One is hiring; a friend of mine in the Boston area reported a single page of help wanted ads in the Herald the first Sunday of 2009.

People who can't pay their mortgage aren't getting a new kitchen or even fixing the roof. Medical its a joke the more people who get hired the lower the salaries are. Want to compete with an immigrant for the job of wiping someone's butt; for $7.35 / hour.

America has f-d up and we are all paying for it.

  18. When it comes to the medical field (been there, done that), unless your name tag ends with M.D. or R.N. you are a well trained person (X-Ray tech, Echo Tech, MRI, ect.) with tons of money you own in student loans and you are earning just a bit more than an manager at a fast food joint.

    It's just not worth it.

  19. This thread is a hoot, not really, ok lets talk about the survey, seems 40% have zero to 10 k saved and 40% have over 100k, so we have both ends of the spectrum here, huh.
There are no jobs, NONE, not even crap jobs. Kids age 19-24 or 26 are screwed, thank God they may not have families yet. Those with kids and a wife etc can't just slack. Ok slacks not the word. If there are no jobs you can go to school all day long and get done and find urself unhired. We needs jobs. Education is always a plus, sure, sure............. but it's nothing if no one will hire. This could go on 4-5 even 10 yrs, the 1929 crash was in sufferage in 1932 and all the way to 1942. This shit does not go away in 2-3-4 yrs, it's a dozen years to sweep up this mess. Regroup and do your best, rethink. It's not fair to say someone mooches or leaches off family ( I can't spell) if you can't find work and you have great friends or family to help even a tiny, GOOD for you, I'm helping those I"d never usually help, you can't produce something that isnt' there. All the retail spots going empty. This is beyond a great self employed person trying to brain storm a new business......... not sure what thrives in these times, alarm companies and pond shops ?
Just stick together, and quit thinking people are lazy . I know many who are hard working but there is no work. It's very depressing and frusterating, big time.

  21. Hi Laura. I do think the other posters are correct in discourging miltary service. Here are a couple of good reasons.
Before the taliban were overthrown opium production was nearly eliminated. Now Afghanistan has record opium production. Question. Why is this so and why is eradication no longer even discussed? It begs the question, follow the money.
Almost nobody has heard the name Smedley Butler. You should, he's the most decorated combat marine in history with TWO Medals of Honor.
Seems his memory has been conveniently shelved after he wrote a book called War is a Racket, a book about corporate imperialism.
The truth will set you free. Fight for the Constitution instead.

  26. Laura, 4:42PM, & 6:15PM seem to be the only intelligent people on this blog. The name calling is unnecessary, yet it identifies the REAL idiots, low-lifers, and freeloaders posting here.
There ARE jobs out there, but not necessarily the ones the unemployed are trained for. However, in times of need, any job is a good job and helps put food on the table.
The sad part of the current state of affairs is that two YEARS of unemployment benefits and a massive increase in welfare has been implemented by the reigning Socialist administration guided by Obama/Pelosi/Reid which makes it UNPROFITABLE to get a low-paying job. People will milk this gravy train for all its worth.
In my lifetime, I've seen these conditions five times. I've personally known over 40 individuals who milked the system for 6-9 months, then EVERY ONE OF THEM, when the benefits ended, GOT A JOB within ONE WEEK!!!

  27. i can't live off of $8 an hour, can you? thats not a low paying job, thats slavery !! yes i said it slavery. a wage like that barely keeps food on the table let alone gas in the tank to make that $8 per hour! sorry but i completely understand anyone trying to hold out for something better especially if they have a wife and/or kids in the picture.
