General Growth Properties, the Chicago real estate behemoth that owns Tysons Galleria, Landmark Mall and the Mall in Columbia, faces a major deadline today as it tries to negotiate new terms for $900 million worth of loans on two Las Vegas properties.
The company, which took on substantial debt when it acquired Columbia-based developer Rouse in 2004, said in a regulatory filing last month that it may seek bankruptcy protection if it cannot refinance its debt and its lenders declare it in default.

General Growth Properties is on the verge of bankruptcy. General Growth leveraged themselves to death with the acquisition of Rouse Company. There are numerous REIT's waiting to buy the mall properties.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the strangest thing going on at the POLARIS MALL, Columbus Ohio.
ReplyDeleteThis mall is allowing stand alone buildings (new retail) to be built in the middle of its main parking lot.
They have suffered from major anchors pulling out, so the main mall no longer requires as much parking space. Restraunts and Pubs are now going up as stand alone buildings right in the middle of the old parking lot.
Please be advised that General Growth Properties (GGP) leased the Mall at Steamtown and the Lebanon Valley Mall in a third party capacity over a year ago. It does not have an ownership interest in either property. The properties remain privately held and they are currently leased by FAMECO Real Estate. Ownership has no intention of closing either property, nor is ownership entertaining bankruptcy protection. Please contact me directly should you have concern about the viability of our assets.
