Debtors Revolt

50 comments:

  1. Amen Sista! I'm with you!! BofA, Cap. One and Advanta caused me to lose my thriving business this past January because of this very reason. Never late on a payment once, always paid 3 times my minimum payment excellent fico and whamo. They all jacked my rates up in the 30% range. Made paying them impossible.
Called them and basically got the "FU" from them so "FU" right back. Not getting a penny from me.

  2. I only feel sorry for those who have an emergency and have credit card issues, but if you are spending on vacations, and designer clothes, shoes, model cars, granite tops, mansions etc etc.. grow up and pay it up.

  3. I remember when I was young (50 years ago) loan sharks would try and charge people 15-20% for loans. Many times they were taken to court for usury. Today such practices are ignored by the courts and politicians. The revolt idea will soon spread to paying Federal Income taxes, where your money is being redistributed to others, totally against the Constitution. These issues are nothing more than indications of a collapsing economic system and the banks will begin to fail more rapidly as people like her say stuff it! Sad to see the "system" taking such advantage of its citizens.

  4. 12:11 that's what I thought when I first saw this -- another whiner that ran up credit cards and now doesn't want the responsibility. *But* after hearing the scenario, this person did *nothing* to cause such a ridiculous increase in rate. She makes a good argument in her situation.

Capital One did that to us once -- raised our rate 5% arbitrarily when we had no payment problems and both of us had FICOs of over 780. If a credit card does this to you, you can refuse the change in terms. The card company will freeze your account and you can continue to pay down the remaining balance at your old rate. The major problem is that most companies will send notices that look, hm, exactly like junk mail. We almost missed our notice. We refused Capital One's rate hike and paid the card off.

  5. “Did nothing to cause such a ridiculous…!?!”
Did she sign her name to the contract signifying she agreed to the terms?

Don’t most card agreements say they can jack the rates/fees at their discretion, without notice…well guess what!
Don’t sign it if you don’t like the terms!

  6. everyone will have to pay for those who didnt.thats the bottom line. unless the credit card co. enforces strict rules, and gets the money back from these people who owe,its just an endless circle of finger pointing. I say if you owe any money, no additional credit, loans etc should be given until you pay off your balance. back to basics.

  8. In answer to "but all the rest of us will pay it": If it's a 30% interest rate hike now, where do the interest rates hikes stop? 50%? 90%?

  9. 1:14 you are a douche.

  10. I got out of credit cards well over 20 years ago and thankfully will always stay that way.
Some places look at you like your trash cause you don't have a credit card, yea sure, we have a prepaid mastercard for those people, and guess what, we still have not needed it for the last few years.

I wonder how much my family has saved over the years carrying no debt, a loan here and there but nothing like what the norm seems to be.

  11. I'll assume 1:14 works for a bank. Jebus! You have no grasp of the situation, why are you even posting!

  12. American Express played this little game with me. I had (what was turning into) a great little business. My business card had a limit of $50k / month. As Amex is a charge card, the balance was due - and was paid - in full at the close of every month. In the fall of 2008, in the middle of my monthly buying cycle, American Express cut my limit from $50k to $15k - As my balance was over $15k at the time, my account was immediately frozen. When I called to tell them that they were injuring my business and I had never been late on a payment to them, they told me they were sorry, but their computerized risk modeling mandated that they cut me off. Time and again I called seeking to have this restriction listed, and each time, received a stupider answer. Finally, two months later, after my business had tanked as a result of not being able to purchase new inventory or meet existing orders due to my credit being mysteriously cut, I spoke to an Amex account supervisor who admitted that they were wrong - but that there was nothing I could due and that I needed to pay my bill in full. To date, I have not done this, and frankly, its hardly a priority. Ironically, I have always lived within my means and had never had more than a late utility bill on my credit report until this incident. Finally, thanks to the soon-to-be illegal concept of "universal default" - the moment I ceased paying American Express for the privilege of ruining my business, Capital One decided that I was suddenly a risk, jacked my once-low APR through the roof and I subsequently canceled my card - my account still has a balance and I'm an absolutely no rush whatsoever to pay it off - AND THESE ARE THE COMPANIES OUR TAX DOLLARS NOW SUBSIDIZE? F THIS!

  13. use a credit card for emergency only, thats what I was taught. and why is it so hard to get the money pack from these people? and why are banks still lending to these people? it is very frustrating to someone who keeps things tight.

are already starting to be discussed by people and it just takes enough people to make that commitment for it to work.

  15. 1:33 excellent point. “Maxed Out” is worth the rent, maybe this woman should get a copy…

  16. This lady has no shame. Pay your debt and shut up. As for this being "Civil Disobedience", it appears she didn't buy a dictionary with her credit cards. I think......."Spend Like Theres No Tomorrow And Cry Foul When It Comes Time To Pay The Bill, While Jumping On The I Was Lied To By My Bank/Mortgage Broker So I Should't Be Obligated To Honor The Terms Of The Contract I Signed Bandwagon, All The While Sounding Like A Spoiled Irresponsible Child".......is a better description of her actions.

  17. Seeing things like this make me hope they crack down MORE on people like this. blah blah blah , interest rates..pay off the balance and close the account, and start living within your means. No more trips to the plastic surgeon, no more fake hair, fake nails, fake lips, fake boobs..all on the tax payers dime.selfish.

  18. >6:45 - did you not watch the whole vidio? she DIDN'T spend like there was no tomorrow, She PAID her bills, never MISSED a payment. She has excellent credit. It is unreasonable for a bank to do this to a good customer. would you be ok with an increase then to 40%? 50%? 60%? The bank of America has literally robbed people who did NOTHING WRONG. You really, really need to do some reasearch.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The reality is we are paying for the ones who arent paying in FULL every month. minimum payment doesnt cut it. Pay it off every month. Either you accept these new rules or get rid of your credit card.

    ReplyDelete
  20. >7:12, sorry but you really, really, really need to do some research. Obviously she did NOT pay her bills or she would NOT have a balance.

Bottom line, if someone uses credit cards for short term loans (longer than 30 days) they are going to get f@#ked on the rates.

    ReplyDelete
  21. People the system is completely F**Ked so all we have to do is accelerate the collapse and get done with it once and for all. There is no point for draging this situation for long, I propose that every people out there go to your bank get as many credit cards and loans you can get and go shopping till you drop, enjoy yourself as never before and don't pay one cent back, then what will happen....we will get through this sh*t quickly and life will be back to normal and at the same time we had loads of fun.

  22. Don't use a cotton swab to clean out your ears.

It's dangerous and only pushes the wax further into your ears.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really sympathize with you, really. But I have a question for you and all those who share your outrage. Why do we have to feel pain before we scream? Why can't we see the pain in others and scream for them. No one was complaining while these same corporations were raping our neighbors. Yes with the aid of the government, corporations have been for decades robbing third world countries, raping their resources so that we can have the American dream. Did you protest along with the Bolivians when an American corporation went over to them and told then not to collect rain water because it belonged to them now? Do you still buy the products of corporations that shipped jobs overseas to make poor 3rd world laborers work all day in locked factories for a dollar so that you could look good. Do you even know why people in other lands hate America, because it has been doing to them what you say BoA is doing to you? Yes now we see what these corporations are, since they are trying to do to us what they have been doing to others for DECADES. People have suffered more than you ever will as a result of what our corporations have done to them. Most wars we have been in or coups we have orchestrated have been in the interest of some corporation. When we suffer and we will, do you think the rest of the world will shed a tear?

  25. Wow, what is in 1933, are we in Germany? Some people never learn. I don't care who owns the bank, you took the loan, your greed for more caused you to kiss the banker so you could get their money and buy the stuff you always wanted. Now when it is time to pay...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Am I supposed to feel sorry for her? She used her credit card like a bank account! Using your card to buy stuff, and then paying monthly installments means she bought stuff she couldn't afford. Yeah, it sucks the banks are hiking card rates. You can bitch about that. But I don't feel sorry for her situation. And when the bank suggests getting a consolidation loan, why doesn't she go for it? It'll have a WAY cheaper rate than the credit card rate. The more I think about it, the more I think she's just plain stupid. She lived beyond her means, and now won't take reasonable advice to put her debt into something that makes more sense than credit cards!

  27. wow. cc companies should just come here to get new customers, many posters just don't seem to mind getting screwed over by big banks that, had some of you paid attention to the news for the past year, screwed the average person over royally. Any of you heard of 'Liar's Loans'? Look it up, and THEN comment. I certainly believe in personal resposibility...that would include the people running the banking system.

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh, and 'it's takes two to tango' fits in with the Liars loans quite well. Look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. time to pawn the "HOT WHEELS" collection behind her.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's not that CC companies are crooks, but that we all have free will to deal with them or not. If you know a seedy guy in your area would give you a loan, would you take it from him. The point is we want to live beyond our means and git it now rather than save for it. We complain about politicians but we are just like them, get it know pay later. So who is to blame, the casino or the old man who gambled away his life savings. People talk so much about personal responsibility, well this is part of it. Now pay your bill and cut up your cards.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Personal responsibility means you can only control you, not the bankers. We already knew they were greedy. Didn't you? You can only bend over if you owe it to them.

  32. again, wow. I am done. the folks posting here are beyond idiotic. I wish I could see the world in such absolute black and white terms, it must make life a whole lot easier.

Could not have said it better!
    Well put.

    ReplyDelete
  34. idiotic - a person resorts to name calling when they have no counter aurgument to make.

Are all these posts wrong? Point it out. I am very sympathetic to peoples plight and think we should help, but a crack head must admit he's a crack before he can really be helped. We must all admit our fault in the current crisis. As a nation we have gone too long without paying for the things we wanted. It is now time to grit out teeth and pay for it.

    Is this wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bottom line, the banks have to stop giving out money like its candy to these people. They need to get back the money that is owed via repo and paychecks, I play by the rules, and I am sick of their behaviour. I cant stand waiting on line while someone goes through 5 credit cards before one goes through, and they have gucci bags, fancy cars, seem healthy, cell phones galore. just sell your merch, and pay your bills already. I pay in cash, for everyday items and am tired of cashiers and people giving me dirty looks like what is this? its very annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 3:08: I'll try again - "about a year ago I would have agreed with you completely.

That is, until the banks forced my children to pay for their f**k-ups and bonuses. You enslave my children, then your ass is f*****g up for grabs.

This has gone far beyond the banks making credit and risk adjustments. This is a purposeful manipulation in order to rake in more fees, not in a business profit maximizing sort of way but a predatory sort of way.

The banks had an obligation to make sound loans, but did not. The taxpayer got to pay and the banks kept the ill-gotten profits from prior years. Now, all of a sudden, we're concerned with moral responsibility and contractual obligations? Of course, those things are for the "little people."

All the while they get a nice low Fed rate on the backs of my children and pocket the spread."

Oh, and legal does not always = right. All of you jumping on this woman should jump equaly hard on the cc companies and banks that have clearly taken no responsibility for their actions either. I'll agree, we need to clean up this mess, but we were NOT all partying along with it. Many folks who did everything 'right' and 'legally' are being screwed too. Like this woman. Why is it you all asssume she has been living of her credit cards in the high life? She does not even state her balance! Or what she pays each month!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Zionist banksters take our $$ for free and then loan it out at 30%

Wow. Our owners really know how to dominate us and turn us all into wage slaves.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The point is she has a BALANCE, if it was a couple of hundreds she would pay it off, low profile and all. Here she is high profile, and you know its a pretty big BALANCE to get on camera and try to start a revolution. unless she's a paid actress for some organization. not known. the point is pay off your credit cards and get out. If everyone did this there would be no discussion, end of story. But just by looking at her , she has collectibles, hair, makeup etc. she is not living in a box I assume, with medical bills, she is a regular consumer, who has to take responsibility like all the rest of us. But I am a big believer that banks have to STOP LOANING TO IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE. and GO AFTER THEM and collect what they OWE.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What about her point? Can you not see any validity in it? Even if she WAS just making minimum payments, her payments would go UP with that kind of a rate increase. She LOST HER JOB due to this finantial mess, that in a large part was the banks COOKING THE BOOKS! They lost BILLIONS! this was NOT ALL THE CONSUMERS FAULT!!! And they are trying to recoup those losses by jacking rates! Did you look up liars loans yet, also known as Ninja loans? arg. SHE WAS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY!! SHE PAID HER BILLS FOR 14 YEARS! Paying a minimum balance is not illegal either. That just means the cc co. made more money. ack.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I NEVER trusted banks, the goal of a banker is to MAKE MONEY. any aware person would know that, I hate banks, they lended money to people who COULDNT PAY THEM BACK, and knew it. but do you know how frustrating it is to work hard, save money, pay off balances in FULL and have to see this nonsense. I know all about the "textbook loans" but thats just an angle, if your smart enough to know aabout them your smart enough to avoid them. She looks healthy enough to find another job, pay off the debt and be done with it.Personally I think shes an out of work actress, with time on her hands and a director reading her lines.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Quote:
"But she put the noose around her own neck when she charged up debt she couldn't pay in full with the next month's payment."

Uh, that's NOT how that card was marketed to her (or anyone else)

"Pay over time" - there's an implication to be able to do so at the rate in effect when the charge was incurred for that specific charge, backed with YEARS of performance by the bank on those exact terms.

Now they want to retroactively change the terms because they don't like what's happening to their portfolio. Hmmmm....."

  43. It’s funny, it’s sad and somewhat telling. Everyone enjoyed the ride, were bestest buddies going up the mountain but NO ONE, including the banksters, likes it coming back down.

Maybe that is the next great DEPRESSION we all keep hearing about.

  44. Take you credit card and go buy a good rifle. Hell buy enough for 20 people. When they come to take then from you and your squad light them up. History will always be written by the victors not the dead. Long live the revolution death to the Red Coats, Facist, Socialist.....or.... we could just tax the heck out of interest rates in excess of 10 percent... and let market forces do their thing. I vote for the later... Bukkets are expensive :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Amen... but what do "Bukkets" have to do with any of this???

    ReplyDelete
  46. I just wish people listened more to history than to all the nationalistic propaganda that comes from those who have a stake in your believing it. Bankers and not in business for YOU. They want to make MONEY. Class warfare has been a constant throughout history. Once the peasants got tired of the wealthy class there was conflicts and deadly ones. The middle-class solved the problem for the wealty. The middle-class created a buffer between the wealthy and the poor. Let the middle-class achieve some wealth or keep in front of them the promise of it and it will be the middle class that beats back the poor. The middle-class talks like the rich although they are not the rich. Tax cuts, no healthcare. They blindly fight aganst their own interest as the wealthy villify the poor, divide and conquer. Yes the banks are showing people just what they are peasants. But personal responsabilty is the conservative montra, read your credit card agreement (that they can rasie your rates anytime without a reason) then sign in full knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think this talk of revolution is a farce. Can you image what a government would be like under those who spew this type of message. It would be alot worse than what we have. Think Bosnia, that is exactly what we would have. Under educated men (drinking buddies) walking around the streets carry guns thinking they own the place. It wasn't the mob that set up this government. But highly educated wealthy land owners. You want a revolution, Think Bosnia.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Whats up with all the bank bashing!?!? This is the same juvenile mentality that drives me crazy when I hear grown adults bitching about how they hate the police for one reason or another. But of course they want them to respond when they need them. We love the banks when we want the money to buy a house or a car or whatever. The people on here claiming to hate the banks or those claiming the banks are greedy, are probably the same people with high balances and high interest rates...either now or in the past. ITS THE BANKS MONEY TO LEND...THAT MEANS ITS THEIR TERMS. If you don't like the terms to accept them. Since when did banks become a public utility like gas, water, electric, etc. GROW UP CHILDREN

    ReplyDelete
  49. Actually 5:05, it hasn't been the banks money to lend. They banks south of the border are currently propped up by .gov, using huge 'stimulus' programs, funded by taxpayers money. Perhaps you should grow up, and do just a wee bit of research.

oh, btw, I personally have no debt. I still think the banking system south of the border is corrupt.
