Former AIG CEO: Goldman Sachs Is Responsible for Collapse

(Bloomberg) -- Hank Greenberg, former chief executive officer at American International Group Inc., said Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is responsible for the collapse of the insurer during the economic crisis, the Wall Street Journal reported.

“It certainly wouldn’t be difficult to come to that conclusion,” Greenberg is quoted as telling the newspaper yesterday.

Greenberg blamed new standards for credit-default swaps -- pushed by Goldman or Deutsche Bank AG, he said -- and subprime, housing-backed derivatives sold and then shorted by Goldman as contributing to AIG’s collapse, the newspaper reported.

“Mr. Greenberg appears to base his views on news reports rather than facts,” Lucas van Praag, a Goldman spokesman, said in an e-mail to Bloomberg News. “It is interesting that he doesn’t mention the devastating conclusions about AIG reached by the company’s own auditors.”

  1. Hmmm... no wonder Goldman Sachs people have started carrying GUNS.

They know that people might just figure out what they have been doing.

Better get some neck protectors just in case people pull out the nooses or guillotines.

  2. The greed of all the major players that were bailed out and the few that werent caused this mess. GS and other investmant banks knew that crap was toxic but just wanted their billions in bonuses by leveraging that toxic crap. AIG just saw dollar signs insuring it and also had knowledge it was toxic and eveidently the fix was in with the rating agencies. I still dont understand (actually I do they are in bed with the govt/fed) why some bankers are not in jail since they knowingly pushed this mess as safe when they 100% knew it wasnt - that is against the law and would be easily proven in court. The case would be almost as easy as the Enron case to get convictions - this whole deal is a dang joke...

  5. Ha,Ha,Ha-wonderful to see the wolves fighting amongst themselves.

Unfortunately, probably 5% or maybe at the maximum, 10% of Americans know anything about Goldman Sachs. Not to worry, this will go no where in the propaganda MSN.

The dumbed down idiotic brain washed mind controlled TV addicted American public have no interest in Goldman Sachs, unless they are a football team.

  6. Deceived and deluded is a better description than idiotic, but brainwashed and mind controlled about sums it up.

The Mantra proud to be an American is comical considering 99% of Americans are walking zombies.

  8. Americans are actually quite intelligent, 5:11pm. That's why last year they sold more long guns in this country than in all prior years put together, along with enough ammunition to last a 300 million man army for 6 months in rural and urban warfare.

Course, 5:11pm watches it's TV and thinks the reality Hollywood gives it is real. Sun Tzu would agree, it's best to underestimate your enemy. Course, Henry Kissinger, being a true man of war, understood long ago that the destruction of America would lead to an all out civil war lasting decades. As he put it 'A long gun firing from behind every GRASSY KNOLL'

  9. And tell us what do you know about Goldman Sachs 5:11? That they orchestrated the collapse? They screwed all the worlds economies and forced each and everyone to extend themselves infinitely too far, consuming and borrowing, spending, and wasting? Yeah, I think you are light years ahead of the sheeple, Max Headroom, because you used the name Goldman Sachs in a sentence.
