The End Of The US Dollar? Struggling Towns Printing Their Own Cash
In an echo of the Great Depression, local currencies with their own special flavors are popping up all over in attempts to give commerce and communities a lift.
Last year, two Detroit tavern owners were sitting at the bar, sampling their beverages and bemoaning the local economy -- no one in the city had cash, and when they did, they spent it in the suburbs. Then the pair hit on a solution: Print their own money.
It is, after all, perfectly legal for anyone to issue currency, as long as it doesn't look too much like a U.S. dollar. Thus was born the Detroit cheer, a local scrip accepted by a handful of city businesses, including a pizzeria, an electrician and a doggy day care center.
Residents can also exchange it at a few area bars for greenbacks, but the cheer is vastly more colorful. It features a chiseled, naked Greco-Roman superhero (the Spirit of Detroit) towering Godzilla-like over the city skyline, cupping a tiny family in one hand and a sunburst representing God in the other. He's a lot more fun than George Washington.
And Detroit isn't the only city sporting its own currency. Since the market tanked nearly 18 months ago, there's been an interest in local scrips not seen since the Great Depression.

Hmm
ReplyDeleteWonder what their funny money is backed by?
Oh; yeah that's right ---- kegs of beer
Let's see how long it'll take the banksters to put these guys in a darkest zindan next to the creator of Liberty dollar. People, the only way to get rid of this mafia is stop paying your credit cards and mortgages, otherwise they'll eat you alive one by one.
ReplyDeleteBRAVO ... a creative way to END THE FED
ReplyDeleteAmerican innovation at work. Oh... not exactly innovative because Americans had Colonial Script money a long time ago.
I think their money is backed by HONOR which is more than the US Federal Reserve Note is back by. At least these Detriot guys do not have an IRS protection racket like the Federal Reserve has.
There was an episode of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" about something like this not too long ago...
ReplyDeletePrint local currency, back it by local gold and silver; (I'll toss in mine if you toss in yours) into some kind of collective reserve, not a corrupt bank. Those who deposit gold and silver into the collective, will be compensated some how... come on smart people, get thinking.
ReplyDeleteYa - trolls of this website for sure. They want to sell survival
ReplyDeletepackets and seeds. I have been browsing all these articles and I must
admit it seems really to prey on that what if's.
5:27 and 5:36 is the same person. FYI. Trolls
ReplyDeleteI agree. 5:27 and 5:36 comes here to sow dissent frequently. It is the same person. Must not be very smart though because it takes him seven minutes to type out each sentence!
ReplyDelete5:27,
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter if the U.S. is appreciating against the Euro, Yen or whatever. Most world currencies are depreciating at different paces. That's why PMs are appreciating.
Ask yourself...
Has the Fed ceased printing money?
Has the Treasury ceased issuing government bonds?
Has government spending ceased exceeding government revenues?
Is there a restructing program on the table to replace the false economy of the past decade, i.e. real estate bubble/construction boom?
The next wave of home mortgage troubles is nearly four times larger than 2007/8 Subprime. You just watch your so called "appreciating" Dollar get killed.
7:54...pm's appreciating?
ReplyDeleteWTF? have you seen the bloodbath lately? LOL
Silver can't and never will break $20.
Get a grip
AAH, the Gov Troll is back dreaming of his Gov Pension, good luck with that!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere you go!
ReplyDeleteNow slaves understand why I keep asking slaves to print money.
9:15,
ReplyDeleteIt's you who needs to get a grip.
There's no way the U.S. Government is going to be able to reconcile its liabilities without debasing the Dollar substantially.
Investments rarely go straight up or down. They ebb and flow. Always have, always will. Big deal.
Only a blind fool would conclude that the Dollar is about to make a major, long-lasting turnaround.
What's disappointing is that they have no money to finance medical care and pensions, but Cass Sunstein managed to convince his Jewish friends at the Federal Reserve to print a couple of billions to pay to these government trolls.
ReplyDeleteI would tell, this is a real great depression to the whole country. Well written and good follow up comments too.
ReplyDeleteWorth reading.
Thanks for sharing.
11:19. YOU ROCK!
ReplyDeleteY'all bow down and listen to that man. Especially you doom sayer fckerz.!
Y'all want a beleive a bunch of bshit so you can convince the rest n of
us. Depraved socialist!b talk about negitively marketing -sheese
As you say 11:19 it is all just "fear mongering", the US dollar is appreciation despite the fact that the fed is keeping interest rate near zero, now just imagine when interest rate start to rise, the Dollar will just shoot through the roof.
ReplyDeleteyes yes yes
ReplyDeleteprint cash
print money
photocopy money
brilliant!
I don't understand why the trolls are so fascinated with this site. Usually if I have no interest in something or don't agree with it, I stay away from it. What draws them back, day after day? It's either their paycheck from the government for hassling websites that tell the truth, or their secret fear that it's all true.
ReplyDeleteWithin 2 years, most people will be poor, we will have had 30-50% inflation, and the dollar will be worthless. Then war will break out. That's what is planned anyway, according to my source. Write it down and check back within two years. Seriously, do it! This source has been right before when everyone else was predicting the opposite. My source knows this because he is high placed and has heard it being planned. Believe it or don't, I don't care. My responsibility is to warn, not convince.
The real funny part is..the troll actually believes I wrote all these articles!
ReplyDeleteHey, governement trolls. I personally exchanged Swiss francs a year ago at the exchange rate of 1us to 1.17chf, Go to forex.com and check what the rate it is today, dorks. You governemet trolls are so stupid and you think everybody else just as stupid as you are. But remember one thing, your governement will use you and then wipe its feet about you and will toss you out like piece of used toilet paper. And you deserve it.
ReplyDelete@1:47 AM
ReplyDeleteBecause this is their job, they are paid by Cass Sunstein to come to blogs like this and "create a different consensus". These dorks do not get it; it is impossible to create a different opinion when 80% of your friends and you yourself are unemployed regardless of how much your masters pay you.
I'm new here and I trade FX, not for a living, just gambling. My question to you is where are people going to park their money? This is a global financial ponzi scheme. Ireland, the UK, Spain and Greece, among others, are in deep do-do too. For the moment, the US is the world's reserve currency, right or wrong. there is a conspiracy theory going around about how the gov is going to crash the stock market to force people into treasuries. That's good for the dollar. If someone here has some special knowledge, I'm all ears...show me your fx track record, I'll be happy to follow along. Judging by the comments I've read so far, it seems like your readers are suffering from confirmation bias.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that economic growth means that which is created and brought to market that has not existed before, a positive change created by innovators not afraid to make waves and wakes, as cited in Save Pebble Droppers & Prosperity on Amazon.com and claysamerica.com
ReplyDeleteFACT..Russia, China, Japan etc had a meeting (private) to talk about a NEW International joint currency to get away from the US dollar as the worlds Federal Reserve. FACT the US dollar is still falling, Inflation is rising. When are we the people going to put away this "Normalcy Bias" a.k.a. "this could NEVER happen in the U.S." and try to fix this. PRINTING MORE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF SHORT TERM LOANS IS NOT **NOT** A FIX. It further inflates the US dollar and will inevitably lead to our fall.. I hope and pray that everyone stays safe. MARK MY WORDS, we are heading for (if not fixed now) a Depression the likes NO ONE has seen. Martial Law the whole 9 yards. I can back EVERYTHING I'm speculating about. Follow the graphs of now compared to 1937, 38 etc.. The recovered much like we did apx 12 to 18 months after Stock mkt crash. Then an even larger crash was to come. I am NOT Chicken Little..The facts are present I pray everyone works in the next 12 months to get 6 months of NON perishable FOOD AND WATER stored away..May God save us all..
