Massive Layoffs Coming in NYC, Nevada, California, Colorado, Arizona, Everywhere

Cities, states, and municipalities are sinking by the minute. And unless unions agree to concessions (which they won't) massive layoffs are coming everywhere you look. New York City is a prime example.

Please consider NYC May Lay Off 19,000 Workers If State Cuts Aid

New York City will have to lay off more than 10,000 public workers, in addition to 8,500 teachers, if the state legislature approves the $1.3 billion of cuts the governor proposed in his deficit-closing budget, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Monday.

The mayor, in a speech to the legislature, estimated 3,150 police officers would be cut, reducing the force's "operational strength" to 1985 levels.

About 1,050 firefighters would have to be let go, along with 900 correctional officers, and the city would have to cut its daily inmate population by 1,900, he said. The number of at-risk children that service workers monitor would fall to 2,700 from 9,000, Bloomberg said.

The mayor, an independent, said Governor David Paterson's budget "utterly fails the test of fairness." He told lawmakers: "You can't lose control of the streets in terms of safety or cleanliness. You can't lose control of the streets in terms of an ambulance or a firefighter showing up."

  1. Yeahp. Here's about where it starts getting ugly(ier).
February, 2010 and municipality after municipality is coming up way short.

The snowball effect is going to work very well here as well, massive job and business loses by the end of the year.

Murphy's law. If you ain't Irish, you're gonna get a severe ass beating. Twice.

We have just started this roller coaster ride, HOPEFULLY the worst is behind us, but it doesn't look that way to me,REMEMBER, history moves slowwww when living it.

  11. There are two high profile individuals claiming anywhere from 30% to 66% devaluation of the Dollar by late/early 2010/11. Both are intimately aware of the Syndicate, and one gets called by one of its insiders from time-to-time (the 30% - 50% guy; a long-standing Christian minister; the other fellow is a well known, credible economist).

The reason is really simple to grasp. Debt and a world-wide oil production bottleneck. The Syndicate needs to remove more and more automobiles from the road system and make air transportation less affordable. There simply isn't enough oil to go around for everyone and production is declining.

    How do you do this?

Answer: devalue your currency (print more), making everything more expensive all at once. At the same time you fix some banking holes.

Now let's get back to your life. Okay. Your non-debt expenses go up, say 50%. Guess what? If you own gold and/or silver, you can mitigate some of these for a while, as you watch some of your less fortunate and less informed neighbours dump their cars and/or lose their homes altogether.

The patterns and trends are clear for all to see. Oil is moving up in price SUBSTANTIALLY to tame world demand. That means real estate prices have to go lower so more income is available for food, transportation, manufactured goods and energy. You don't need to contact an investment broker to understand this. It's real simple.

The people who get caught in all of this are the ones who are living paycheque-to-paycheque, like many retirees and low income families.

Structure yourself accordingly, else you'll pay the price, literally.

Gold, silver and platinum are excellent hedges, needless to say. The fellow who claims that the long-term goal for PMs is down is a fool and/or intelligence plant.

  14. 11:33 & 12:00, if you are the same individual, then you are doubly stupid. Anyone that is not seeing the growing pattern of the further downturn of the economy is as I said earlier, stupid. When the crap hits the fan, then suffer fool.

  15. Los Angeles is officially broke. Naturally that worthless, burrito breath mayor announced the near future layoff's of hundreds of police and firefighters. The city had plenty of money to pay for Michael Jackson's funeral at the Staples Center, an estimated 4-5 million. The unions won't budge, so incompetent teachers still get full pay and benefits. Water mains are constantly bursting, as the DWP retirees continue to enjoy their fat retirement incomes. Some of those bastards are pulling in nearly $200K a year.

Glad I don't live in LA.

  19. @ 6:00, the two people you refer to are nothing but salesmen trying to sell a product, and the one should stick to the pulpit instead of claimin to have special "inside" tracks on stuff he knows nothing about.

  24. Some people here think the collapse is going to happen in a giant wave, what they don't understand is that it's happening on an individual level. One by one, people are losing their jobs, defaulting, losing their cars, homes, etc. It doesn't just happen overnight with a bang, it is a gradual descent and process.

Can't you fools like the troll at 11:33 think critically?

  29. The Center for Media Research has released a study by Vertical Response that shows just where many of these ‘Main Street’ players are going with their online dollars. The big winners: e-mail and social media. With only 3.8% of small business folks NOT planning on using e-mail marketing and with social media carrying the perception of being free (which they so rudely discover it is far from free) this should make some in the banner and search crowd a little wary.
