On Tuesday, US President Barack Obama signed into law health care legislation that expands health coverage for the poor, imposes new taxes on the rich and forbids insurance practices such as refusing coverage to those with pre-existing conditions.
In their expansionary phase, empires force people to go out, seek risks and fend for themselves, Murrin said, reminding of the dismantling of the British empire after the war, when the National Health Service, which ensures universal health coverage in Britain, was created.
"This (empire decline) is actually a dead-set course that societies get into and it will happen very quickly I'm afraid," he told "Squawk Box Europe."
"As you start to build a system it becomes cohesive because of its success… the fractures in the American system I think are more apparent than ever," Murrin added.
China's rise will be much faster than most people anticipate as the country's military prowess increases, he said.
I am one out of 40 million whom can't get medical Insurance here in the US.. I am a citizen of the United States and should be eligable as anyone else. I have diabetes.. It is about time someone stepped up and changed the medical system.... I applaude this change...

We are all entitled to the pursuit of happiness, just not guaranteed it. Demanding coverage for a condition you brought on yourself from lifestyle choice, or may have resulted from genetics is a crap shoot in life.
Forcing others to pay more or even buy insurance because some want to pay less is stealing.

Yes, the U.S. is going to decline. And it is going to do so with or without this health-care act. At least now some people won't lose their homes because of medical bills.

Had there been a national health-care system from day one in the U.S. of A. the system would have taken the risk of the person contracting diabetes at some point in his life.
To tell the diabetic now that he's not morally eligible for medical coverage on the inception of the new system is just plain shortsighted and heartless.
I can tell you this. God has more mercy than you, thankfully.
My wife and I both work. Like many of you we work hard long hours. Our taxes like many of you are insane. Now based upon all the new taxes that will be imposed on us who work while millions of illegals get free care I'm going to quite my job and we'll live off my wife's salary. She makes less that the $88,200 so we should get assistance from The Prez and Poloky! Also, I want my 401k before the Banksters take that too.

I view the legislation as a bailout for big pharma and the health care industry, I think they were pretty ticked off when AIG and the banks took such a huge slice of tax dollar pie, so "health care reform" HAD to be passed in order to placate them. It really wouldn't have mattered whether dems or republicans were in majority, since they are all eating off the same plate.

ReplyDeleteGranted, if the phony wars and military industrial complex were not draining the resources, the tax base would be greatly reduced and citizens could afford to buy better medical care and pursue other interests.
However, health care is a personal responsibility, just like buying groceries, clothing, etc. You are buying a product or professional service. If you want others (the collective) to pay for or subsidize what you personally want, then just come out and say what you mean. Stop lying to yourself.

I work with several diabetics as partners...AND EVERY SINGLE time it has come to diabetes due to drinking and bad bad bad diet...There's certain diseases that can be almost always be traced back to the person...That is one.

The proper economic system is a fine balance between capitalism (with proper controls to prevent monopolies) and some socialism to prevent the weak from falling through the cracks. That is why Canada is a SUPERIOR nation in which to live right now. Don't kid yourself. IT IS! America is a joke and virtually every Canadian knows this. You couldn't pay us to live in your cesspool of confusion.
And if you think Medicare and Social Security is not socialism, you need to get your head examined.
As far as a national health-care system is concern, the correct form does not have for profit private insurers. Also, there are deductibles to prevent abuse, like a $50 or $100 deductible to prevent nonsense visits. The latter is what's missing in the Canadian system.
And now you know why the U.S. of A. is ROCK BOTTOM amongst the G8 in terms of living standards for ordinary, mainstream people.

I'll agree that the USA is F'ed but so is Canada. We pay out taxes to dozens of leaches, you pay a couple. The net result is we each kiss 50-60% of our income goodbye. Canada along with other western nations don't waste the USD trillions each year on the military cesspool. If we dropped that budget we could each afford better health care on our own...that is except the Tax Eaters, they will always steal from the Tax Payers.
My last blood test said I'm doing fine. My aorta, that is ready to burst and kill me, 13 seconds later is another thing. Since all my marketable skills, I have had since the age of 14, are now all gone, all I have to look forward to is more years without a job and eventual residence on some freeway off ramp, holding a "Homeless, God Bless" sign.
ReplyDeleteAll my adult life, I was the machinist that made the Sidewinder missiles and launch vehicles that killed thousands of innocent people in the first Gulf War. My job was to build them, not ask questions.
Thousands of others, just like me are unemployed. I have no idea where we are geting our bombs and missiles from, but it can't be from the USA.
16 years ago I was pregnant and homeles. I had lost everything I had to an abusive boyfriend except for a van in which I lived in. Unable to work because I lost my job when I lost everything else because of the boyfriend threatening my co-worker so I had to leave the job. I also developed gestational diabetes and became very sick. But I was able to find somebody to loan me diabetic equipment to monitor my blood sugar. they wanted me to take insulin, but I insisted on controling it through diet which they said I did very well. I managed to find food through churches and WIC and controlled my blood sugar under very difficult conditions. I did not qualify for food stamps because I was homeless. I ate at soup kitchens and sometimes people feed me in their homes. I froze at night snd slept on the hard metal floor. With faith in God I made it through this hard time. I also developed charactor during this time. I learned not to take financial security for granted because you can lose it all over night. In 16 years I went from living in a van with just a few set of clothes and a pack of diposable diapers to owning my own home, vehicle, motorcycle, etc... A single mother raising a content, wonderful child paying for our own insurance with no government hand out. Sometimes hard times can be a valuable lesson and make you try that much harder. Have diabetes excercise, measure food, control your diet. Have faith in God he can pull you through anything.
