Top Secret America: What Is This For?

The government has built a national security and intelligence system so big, so complex and so hard to manage, no one really knows if it's fulfilling its most important purpose: keeping its citizens safe.
The top-secret world the government created in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, has become so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or exactly how many agencies do the same work.

These are some of the findings of a two-year investigation by The Washington Post that discovered what amounts to an alternative geography of the United States, a Top Secret America hidden from public view and lacking in thorough oversight. After nine years of unprecedented spending and growth, the result is that the system put in place to keep the United States safe is so massive that its effectiveness is impossible to determine.
The investigation's other findings include:
* Some 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies work on programs related to counterterrorism, homeland security and intelligence in about 10,000 locations across the United States.
* An estimated 854,000 people, nearly 1.5 times as many people as live in Washington, D.C., hold top-secret security clearances.
* In Washington and the surrounding area, 33 building complexes for top-secret intelligence work are under construction or have been built since September 2001. Together they occupy the equivalent of almost three Pentagons or 22 U.S. Capitol buildings - about 17 million square feet of space.

  1. This was not WaPo trying to make government more efficient. This was a anti-American reporter with a shady past and close ties to communist organizations "outing" elements of our national security. Somehow I don't see this making us any safer...

  2. making us safer from what? The government? Are you that deluded, you actually believe there are "TERRORISTS" lurking about? Anyone who can see past their eyes knows what's going on here..

  3. Notice how we never hear anything more about the Underwear Bomber? He gets caught (False Flag) and within weeks, the naked body scanners are making their way into an airport near you. That only means those scanners had already been developed, tested and manufactured years prior, they were sitting in a warehouse, waiting to be installed.

The Times Square bomber, with his "bomb" that the Bomb Squad said had ZERO chance of exploding, is now behind bars, or is he really?

If I were a domestic terrorist, (AND I'M NOT, so CIA, NSA, DHS, go phuck yourselves) I could build a serious car bomb that absolutely would explode, for less than $100.00, using completely untraceable materials.

Something tells me, if we got our unwelcome asses out of Iraq and Afghanistan and focus on Southern Border security, we would all be in better shape.

A Constitutionalist is someone who wants our government to play by the rules set up more than 200 years ago, by our founding fathers. The Federal Government defines a Constitutionalist as a "Home Grown, Domestic Terrorist", who should be imprisoned for life, so the real terrorists (Obama, the Congress and the Supreme Court) can remain operational.

It's too bad General McCrystal did not arrest Obama for treason when he had the chance to do it.

  4. Seems the problems started when the government quietly shifted its focus from it primary role of protecting citizens rights to protecting security. And Remember, security is a term that refers to financial things, not safety.

  5. What a freaking idiot, you must work for the CIA or something. I've never written anything in a blog, but for God sakes how stupid could you get. I suppose you think a NAZI knocking down your door to confiscate peoples guns is a good idea or how about they start censoring the web today. With nearly a million spies watching all of us means the government are the terrorist. The enemy is the state and from within now, and government needs to be reduced in size and scope by 80% in order for us to survive this Madness. Were living in a police state right now. They serve no one but themselves. With Americans having no control over the economy or government policies we are sure to have some kind of revolt. The direction we've been going in is worse then 1984 and has led us into fascism. What else could you call it when corporations and government gang up on the people to take all their property and liberties away over time and keep doing more of the same. The Banksters have robbed us all in one way or another. The whole thing is one big organized/disorganized crime syndicate. 1776 is the answer to 1984. Oh Apropos the government has shut down blogs it doesn't like or deem proper, so you could waive bye bye to your 1st amendment rights if you want to go along with this pseudo mafia protection were all under. People feel very protected as they lose their jobs, money, and homes. Its great to know your tax money is going toward watching you. This means nearly 1 in 300 people are spies. This really makes the flow of money go round and round. Yeah very productive. Kind of like the Russian economy use to be (produce nothing and increase the empire to the point everything collapses upon itself like the WTC).

The good news is they can and will be defeated!

  6. To anon 8:38
Since 9/11 there have been over 15,000 terrorist attacks around the world Do you believe the terrorists ARE NOT "lurking"?

    to Anon 11:00
The underwear bomber and the Times Square bomber did indeed almost succeed. Their lack of skills saved us nothing else. As for this loony "false flag" theory; please get a new tin foil hat the one you are wearing is obviously too tight.

    to anon 9:30
I have never seen a NAZI at my door or anyone confiscating my guns. If you mean that politicians both local and national are constantly chipping away at all our rights including our 2nd amendment rights I would agree. Thankfully the Supremes have recently ruled twice in favor of the 2nd amendment. No it's up to all of us to elect politicians who believe in the constitution.
