Prepping for Obamacare, Olive Garden and Red Lobster Cut Workers' Hours; Are Other Companies Doing the same? Tip Sharing Lowers Minimum Wage; Like One, Like All?

In hopes of reducing the impact of Obamacare, Olive Garden and Red Lobster are reducing hours and studying the impact.

Right now, this is just a small test, involving only four stores markets. However, if large chains are testing in that direction, no doubt other companies are doing the same. I also suspect smaller chains have already shifted to that model completely.

Please consider Prepping for Obamacare, Chain Cuts Workers' Hours.

The owner of Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants is putting more workers on part-time status in a test aimed at limiting the impact of looming health coverage requirements.

Darden Restaurants declined to give details but said the test is only in restaurants in four markets across the country. The test entails increasing the number of workers on part-time status, meaning they work less than 30 hours a week. Under the new health care act, companies will be required to provide health care to full-time employees by 2014. That would significantly boost labor costs for businesses.

About 75 percent of Darden's employees are currently part-timers.

Given the challenging job market, Darden has been able to offer lower pay rates to new hires. Bonuses for general managers have been reduced as sales have stagnated. Servers at Red Lobster are handling four tables at a time, instead of three. Read more....

  1. But both Olive Garden and Red Lobster publicized their willingness to go along with the MOOCH's diet plan. There was a big article in our paper that said they were going to adopt her dietary recommendations. We haven't been to either restaurant since.

How nice that the liberal business establishments will suffer along with everyone else due to BO's disastrous handling of our economy.

  2. All according to commie obamy's plan. Next up seize private restaurant chains that don't go along with the phoney health care scam. Imagine eating at a restaurant staffed by a bunch of TSAers on the upward career track. From sniffing ass and squeezing nuts to making salads.

    1. The healthcare plan is a scam. When gov't wants to outlaw or regulate something it will be considered a health issue. It's nothing but a means to control the public. The gov't can not do a better job than I when it comes to my health. Besides, so-called "free healthcare" isn't free. It's payed with taxpayer money and you won't have a say in it.

You'll be paying for others who are irresponsible, you'll receive poor service, some panel (group of idiots who aren't even health professionals) will decide what is best for you etc...It will be nothing but a bureaucratic system and we have enough of that already.

If this healthcare is so great why aren't politicians going to be under this plan? Because it's "Do as I say, not as I do!" Typical socialist commie BS.

  3. Mooch's diet plan is not working for her. Barack told her to haul ass to the Oval Office and it took her 3 trips.
