Zero Point of Systemic Collapse

(snippet)
We stand on the cusp of one of humanity’s most dangerous moments.
We stand on the cusp of one of the bleakest periods in human history when the bright lights of a civilization blink out and we will descend for decades, if not centuries, into barbarity. The elites have successfully convinced us that we no longer have the capacity to understand the revealed truths presented before us or to fight back against the chaos caused by economic and environmental catastrophe. As long as the mass of bewildered and frightened people, fed images that permit them to perpetually hallucinate, exist in this state of barbarism, they may periodically strike out with a blind fury against increased state repression, widespread poverty and food shortages. But they will lack the ability and self-confidence to challenge in big and small ways the structures of control. The fantasy of widespread popular revolts and mass movements breaking the hegemony of the corporate state is just that – a fantasy.
My analysis comes close to the analysis of many anarchists. But there is a crucial difference. The anarchists do not understand the nature of violence. They grasp the extent of the rot in our cultural and political institutions, they know they must sever the tentacles of consumerism, but they naïvely believe that it can be countered with physical forms of resistance and acts of violence. There are debates within the anarchist movement – such as those on the destruction of property – but once you start using plastic explosives, innocent people get killed. And when anarchic violence begins to disrupt the mechanisms of governance, the power elite will use these acts, however minor, as an excuse to employ disproportionate and ruthless amounts of force against real and suspected agitators, only fueling the rage of the dispossessed.

  3. Recently, I gave up going to a prayer of the day website. Now, after reading this blog, I am going back.

  4. I agree with all of his points. Those of living in "reality", not living in the Matrix, need to already be in survival mode, and hopefully in a geographical place that will endure our survival.

There are no organized national militia type groups, maybe a few local groups, but they will be vaporized in a matter of minutes by the armed forces they would go up against. The change will take many many years. We need to continue to try and wake people up and educate everyone, one person at a time, like we do now, except the general population "sheeple" are not able to think for themselves, at least on a political or intellectual level, yes they can "think" they need to go out and buy some new fashionable clothes, or a new I phone, these are the things they are told to think, from their TV's, local newspapers and mainstream religion.

I see nothing good happening to the 10% of us in the US who are not brain dead from their TV's or have NOT bought the illusion of "everything is ok" by the govt controlled MSM.

If one is not in survival mode, you need to get in it very soon, and try and find like minded people to communicate with and exchange ideas. Somehow, I know I need to move to a more rural area....

  6. Is it just me or is this guy ALL over the place taking every argument from each sides playbook. This is a discombobulated thought process in this piece.

He is making every argument FOR and AGAINST communism/liberty/freedom/anarchy, etc, etc.

He is all over the place, what do you want Mr. Hedges? YOu (rightly so) denounce the utopian socialist idea of globalization yet in the next sentence praise the virtues of the new deal and big government social programs? Who is the one envisioning an unattainable utopia here?

Maybe he has been to close to too many explosians in all his war corresponding?

  7. To the first poster - LMAO!!! Geezus H Christ you said it pal! LOL!! Still laughing.

You know that no matter how bad it gets you just have to keep your sense of humor and your humanity. Even when I am forced to club a rat for my dinner I will still try to find some humor in it.

Once there is no joy, no happiness, what is the reason for going on at all. That is a good time to use the last bullet.

  8. 10:11 - focus on something real and start preparing yourself and your family. Get water - store some barrels. Buy a crapload of canned food and freedried food. Think if you were cut off from all that you get from the outside - electricity, water, heat - then make a list of all the things you would need.

That doesn't include a fancy car (no gas) or a giant LCD TV.

  9. I forgot one thing. I hate guns but you better have at least one and a lot of ammo. Even my passive ass knows that much.

  10. How about a poll for who would buy DEPRESSION 2010 T-shirts? My DEPRESSION 2009 t-shirt is outdated.

If ten of us commit up front I bet EA would do it again. I will commit to 2.

  11. Or HYPERINFLATION 2010 that would be a good one also.

  12. In 2010 we will still be in "The Great Recession". 2011 is the year that we will slide into an official depression (after all of the stimulus $ runs out).

  13. Even better would be a Tshirt that said "PREPARE!" or "HYPERINFLATION - COMING SOON!"

  14. Yup. It's bad.
Slowly the extreme poverty is spreading across the land. Anyone that thought that they would be spared the greed and arrogance of the bankers is beginning to feel that cold wind themselves lately. As they look out upon the astonishing panorama of the endtimes , millions homeless , mass riots and protests, chaos, anarchy, discontent. they need only remember the words of the Lord.

    All things must pass.

  15. The truth is that most anarchists do no believe in violence. Yes, most embrace revolt, resistance, and rebellion. But the rock throwing, bomb-making, and "chaos" that has become a popular image in the media is mis-placed, even propagandized. What the anarchist does understand is that individuals will need to come together at the local level in order to support one another and that there are alternatives to a money-based economy.

  16. 10:16

There are militia members that have the assault weapons, combat fatigues, helmets and lots of ammo. You can see them all the time, if you look hard. In "civilian life", they still wear jump boots and a military jacket. "Don't Tread on Me" is their favorite flag after the Stars and Stripes. Their cars are tagged with NRA stickers and 2nd Amendment related stickers.

As for me, you'll never know me, unless I have to "go to work". A mini bus full of guys like me, (guys that go unnoticed all the time) could take a military road block.

I'm the mild mannered guy that seems so nice and timid, that I have passed through metal detectors, sounding the alarm, and been allowed to pass. The last time, the alarm went off, (they had my keys and pocket change in the basket) I raised my hand and pointed at my stainless steel watch and the deputy waved me on. I could have had a .45 in my back pocket and they would have never known.

One thing I know about security, whether it's a road block or a metal detector, after a while, you get apathetic as hell, you stop caring and that's when you get attacked. Apathy is also very easy to spot.

  17. THEY LAUGH AT THE IDEA OF THOSE THAT WILL FIGHT-UNTIL THE FIRST VOLLEYS FLY AT BUNKER HILL---I'M SURE THE BRITISH SMIRKED ALSO-FOR AWHILE! BUT BE VERY CAREFUL-THERE IS A REASON THE GOVERNMENT IS ISSUING GUN PERMITS AND WEAPONS---THEY MAY WANT TO LURE CIVILIANS INTO A FIGHT---ONLY TO USE IT AS CAUSE FOR MARSHAL LAW. KEEP THE POWDER DRY AND THE GUNS AT THE READY. THEY APPEAR TO BE DOING ABSOLUTELY LITTLE OR NOTHING TO HELP CITIZENS-AND THIS IS HAPPENING TO THE GOVERNMENTS OF OUR EUROPEAN ALLIES ALSO. THE CITIZENS ARE AROUSED-THEY SNIFF SOMETHING REALLY ALIEN AND ROIIEN COMING THIS WAY......!
