Detroit's Unemployment Rate is 50%

Officially, Detroit's unemployment rate is just under 30 percent. But the city's mayor and local leaders are suggesting a far more disturbing figure -- the actual jobless rate, they say, is closer to 50 percent.
As many have noted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which culls federal unemployment data, does not account for all of the jobless in its widely-quoted national unemployment figures. Among those omitted: part-time workers who are looking for full-time jobs and frustrated job seekers who abandon their job search altogether.
(For some context, the official national unemployment rate is 10 percent, but the"underemployment rate" is 17.2 percent.)
Detroit city officials argue that, when workers who are underemployed are added to the calculation, the number of city residents who are out of work is close to one in every two.
The Detroit News reports:

  14. can someone be truly honest to me (with all paranoia aside) do you with all honesty think that
sometime soon it will come to having to store food and water for a national emergency of food shortage i just want to clear that-up. with all the information that i have read including this web-page that is what has been forecast, but is this another Y2K hype? would i be ridiculed for speaking to someone i know about this matter?

  15. 9:11 you're probably on the brink of being too late. It will be like the 1000 point stock crash, literally happen within hours. Oil goes through the roof, all markets could crash, the dollar collapses, hurricane blows the oil across the lower US or the knowledge that this spill cannot nor ever be stopped..CATASTROPHIC EVENTS THAT HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNINGS..

    ReplyDelete

yeah it's scary scenario i wouldn't want to be caught off-guard in that situation or anyone else.
but i wouldn't know what to do?

  17. I store powered water in case of emergency.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 9:11

There are exaggerations surrounding things such as food shortages and FEMA in my opinion. What I know is that the dollar won't last much longer and all things will literally crash with it. No one will be working at stores because there will be no pay, with no one working that means people will have to venture out of the house to find food which they most likely will be joined by thousands of others. As there will be no formal way of getting it (stores).

This realistically is why you want to store food and water so that you can survive the initial flood and not have to leave your home like all the other people who will be panicking and killing for theirs.

After that when everything is somewhat cooled down you may be optimistic about finding people who survived and are eager to find others to help start clans; communities or groups of people working together to survive. People with large, strong family connections, and who are more sober minded will do better at that point.

The best thing that can happen is that the system crashes, otherwise we will be on our way toward national poverty. Working 80 to 100 hours a week if not several jobs to maintain a home and only be able to spend money on food.

  19. Only 50%?
We sure are lucky it could have been worse much worse if we did not fight the cold warfor the superior american Free trade way against socialism. At least the rich are not unemoployed too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The way I see it there is no downside to water/food storage. Water=free, food is rotated.

Water is critical. Many that store food think that water will always be available because that tap has worked their whole life. That may or may not be the case. Why risk it?

Very simple. Go to any supermarket's deli section and they will give you food grade buckets to store water.

Or search Craigslist in your area for FOOD GRADE and it will come up with buckets, barrels, etc.

If you want to have a mobile water source, stick to 5 gallon buckets with airtight lids.

Even a 20 gallon barrel is a bear to move around.

Water will store for 1-1.5 years with no treatment and be drinkable. It already has chlorine in it, that is how the water is cleared of pathogens before it gets to your home.

If you want to store water for extended periods of time use an additive like Purodene. Then the water will be safe to drink for 4-5 years. It may taste like crap by then because it loses its oxygen. You can literally pour it back and forth and the oxygen will restore.

Water is the most important thing to store. More important than food, guns, silver, or gold. It is nearly free, so there is NO EXCUSE to be caught without it.

Get at least one quality water filter/purifier that will screen out pathogens, etc. Like a Katadyn.

9:11 as far as being ridiculed, that shouldn't be a concern because you should keep your mouth shut about storing food/water. Those people that would ridicule you now will come begging later, or worse, demanding you share.

    Fuck them.

  23. 9:11-The current situation is NOT Y2K. Ignore those who ridicule you, and find new friends who live in reality. We are in a very critical time, many of us on this website have been studying the economic situation for years, and the end is near, total economic collapse coming very soon (most likely in 2010).

1st thing to do is TURN OFF YOUR TV, DO NOT WATCH any news shows AT ALL.

2nd thing to do is buy some storable food, several months worth if you can. I use efoodsdirect.com, there are numerous other sites that are good also, just startpage.com "freeze dried food" and you will see many vendors. I can personally speak for efoods, their food is non gmo and mostly organic. Its very good, I have tried several meals.

3rd thing to do is get a Berkey water filter, I have the Berkey Light™ Gravity Water Purifier Without LED's. If you are on city water, I recommend getting the fluoride filters also. Here is the website:
    http://www.berkeywater-cart.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BL

And get some water storage, I use 5 gallon buckets you can buy at home depot for couple bucks.

3rd-get some silver or gold. I buy silver rounds, dont deal with coins. I buy here:

    http://www.apmex.com/

I have checked the quality of the silver rounds and have sold them to dealers, no problems. Also I find their pricing to be best. APMEX is top rated on National Inflation Association. Get out of any bank or market savings and put them into hard gold and silver and keep it a home. Keep only 3 months of cash in your checking, invest the rest in gold or silver.

4th-Buy a weapon with lots of ammo. If you are not familiar with firearms, get trained on them locally, there are plenty of courses out there. Learn how to use your gun.

5th-get survival stuff, first aid kits, pots, pans waterproof matches, batteries, short wave radio, portable gas stove, lanterns, etc.

You need to get started right away, as time is VERY short!

    Good Luck!

  29. 9:11-the SHTF scenario is in process. See above 10:24 post, it's right on! Watch the market go down and the collapse of the dollar, when that happens, you better be prepared...

It can happen any day now, though it could be 6 months.

  30. Been waiting for the world to collapse for about 2 years and STILL we stand...I know they're running out of bullets but DAMN they seem to pull a rabbit out of the hat everytime!

All I can say is silver/food/meds/tabbacco/liquor/guns/ammo/books/games/writing tablets, pencils, pens and water purification tablets...Etc Etc.

Maybe it will be awhile maybe it'll be a year down the road but why wait?

The brainwashing of the masses throughout history is steal highly effective. WE DON'T NEED THEM, THEY NEED US. We all have skills that we can use to make a living, and guess what, there's no IRS breathing stealing all your money destroying your life.
