If efforts fail to cap the leaking Deepwater Horizon wellhead in the Gulf of Mexico (map), oil could gush for years—poisoning coastal habitats for decades, experts say.
Last week the joint federal-industry task force charged with managing the spill tried unsuccessfully to lower a 93-ton containment dome (pictures) over one of three ruptures in the rig's downed pipe.
Crystals of methane hydrates in the freezing depths clogged an opening on the box, preventing it from funneling the spouting oil up to a waiting ship.

Gulf Oil Reservoir Bleeding Dry
If the oil can't be stopped, the underground reservoir may continue bleeding until it's dry, Simmons suggested.
The most recent estimates are that the leaking wellhead has been spewing 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons, or 795,000 liters) of oil a day.
And the oil is still flowing robustly, which suggests that the reserve "would take years to deplete," said David Rensink, incoming president of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
"You're talking about a reservoir that could have tens of millions of barrels in it."
At that rate, it's possible the Gulf oil spill's damage to the environment will have lingering effects akin to those of the largest oil spill in history, which happened in Saudi Arabia in 1991, said Miles Hayes, co-founder of the science-and-technology consulting firm Research Planning, Inc., based in South Carolina.

May 16 (Bloomberg reports ) -- BP Plc said it made a breakthrough today in its attempts to control oil leaking from a damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico, successfully creating a mile-long funnel to capture some of the flow and bring it to a ship on the water’s surface.
…“While not collecting all of the leaking oil, this tool is an important step in reducing the amount of oil being released into Gulf waters,” BP and government authorities said today in a statement from the oil spill’s Joint Information Center. ….BP continues to work on other methods to plug the well and stop the leak. In the next seven to 10 days, BP will try shooting specially formulated drilling mud in to the well, at a rate of 40 barrels per minute, to slow or shut the oil flow. BP may later use its “junk shot” method to plug the well with an injection of rubber scrap.
I call on all Americans to ignore Obama inaction and rally to the flag and Free Enterprise in the traditional way in times of War.

What you can do to fund the cleanup and practical things to help America and the war effort in its hour of need.

Demand immediate tax cuts for oil companies so they can continue to operating at a profit in the face of the growing costs faced by the companies from this inadvertent oil spill.
3. Patriotic unity in the face of adversity!
All Americans should organise in their own environment, Workplace, town ,or city a campaign to collect old rubber bands and old golf balls an used tires. Forward them to the nearest national collection point so they can be forwarded on to BP. Silver and Gold hoarders can also afford to sell a little at todays high prices and buy rubber bands to make a real patriotic contribution.
4.Every patriotic American should Tear up at least one paper dollar to head off inflation in oil prices.

ReplyDeleteIf you live in a sunny region, you can recharge the batteries exclusively with solar power. For other areas, big business can ultimately link them to solar power farms in deserts.
It takes 2,000 square miles or so of wall-to-wall solar panels to recharge the batteries in 200 million cars and trucks each day. Arizona alone has over 110,000 square miles, thus this is exceedingly doable.
The Dip-shits who own and run Saudi Arabia are potentially sitting on a solar power farm bonanza. They could easily produce way more solar energy than Europe, Africa and Asia could ever need.

P.S. You have been lied to big time regarding the viability of electric vehicles and solar power. The average American drives less than 40 miles a day. The average electric vehicle easily exceeds this if configured correctly. For long distance travel, there's this thing ancient technology called electric trains. Intermodal requirements in urban settings can be handled by electric-powered box trucks from train station to warehouse.
The oil companies do not want the World to know the truth, namely that they are redundant and incredibly greedy, stupid and destructive (not necessarily in that order). Also, plastic and other bi-products can be made from plant sources.
