Homelessness Up 47%--100% In Brooklyn

If you think you've been seeing more people sleep on city streets, statistics back up the perception. The homeless population living on New York City streets has gone up 50 percent in the past year, according to city statistics reported by the HellsKitchenLife.com blog.
The New York City Department of Homeless Services conducts a yearly survey of the streets of the city to count the number of homeless who are not in shelters. The HOPE survey was conducted in January 2010.
The number of homeless in the borough of Manhattan was up 47 percent in the past year, according to the count. The 2010 count had 1,145 people living in the streets. That is up 368 from 2009.
Brooklyn had the biggest increase of any borough. It saw a homeless increase of more than 100 percent in 2010.
More than 1,000 people now live in New York City's subway system -- up 11 percent in the past year.

  1. I am not surprise. I saw a few homelessness in my hood, higher than compare to 2006.

  2. Ah Yes, Americans addiction to free-trade, cheap labor from Mexico and the welfare state has led them to dumpster diving for their dinner!

  3. P makes an excellent point and I encourage everyone that reads this to clear the blood of anger from your eyes and know your enemy for they know you and will give you no quarter.

“Today we need a nation of Minute Men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. The cause of liberty, the cause of America, cannot succeed with any lesser effort. – John Kennedy January 29, 1961 “

The dimensions of our problems overwhelm the imagination. At home millions are unemployed and the growth of our economy has come to a virtual halt. Abroad, we are faced with powerful and unrelenting pressure which threaten freedom in every corner of the globe, and with military power so formidable that it menaces the physical survival of our own nation. Keeping up with the Jones is pulling you into an early grave. What do you care if your neighbors think you drive a newer car then them? You probably don’t even talk to them enough anyways for you to spend so much resources to “Impress” them.

  4. Every day there's more homeless added to their army...Used to be old nasty guys now I see couples, families and very young men.

Some you help...Some you ignore...Some play the part and hustle...All in all a very fucked up situation...Churches/shelters and missions are overloaded needing more help and getting less funds to go on.

    This will end badly.

  5. College students are also being mixed into this category.

Prior to the 1980s colleges used to only take smart kids who had wealthy parents that could pay for them to go. The only other way was that they worked to pay for it, which was possible back then.

In the 1980s it was only the middle class kids that went. Rich kids wouldn't need to waste time there, they would get a special education from daddy. Lower class - forget it. The middle class that did go were academically qualified, nothing short of that.

Today poor kids, dumb kids, junkies... everyone goes to college. Why? Because they can get loans and grants. There is only a tiny margin of people who thrive from this scam that's been going on in the past 20 years. They are the ones who get to own these people financially. And seeing that they accept those who are academically unqualified, the chances are good that most will drop out of school. For those who do graduate there's still no jobs for them unless they get lucky.

Many of these students are weighed down so badly they have to find other desperate students to work with money wise so they can pay rent and eat. They might be working two jobs plus contend with piles of homework everyday. This is only sympathizing the ones who take it seriously and aren't there to get drunk and high in the dorms.

Their textbooks to rent for just three months or so cost about 200 bucks a piece. Well, you can go to a bookstore and get better books to keep forever for under 20 dollars. What's up with that?

The education system in my view is where the biggest criminals have been operating their business. Watch these trade schools be advertised left and right on television... nothing short of a mockery.

  6. another thing or two about todays colleges, having had 2 children go to a state school. books are a rip off. not only $200 each. 50% of the professor will not even use the required textbooks in their class! also, the studies are now patterned on a five year program. very few complete in four years. alot leave after 2 years.
