Majority of Canadians are a Paycheck Away from Collapse

By The Canadian Press

TORONTO - Nearly 60 per cent of Canadians would have trouble paying the bills if their paycheque was delayed by one week, a new polls suggests.

The Canadian Payroll Association survey says not only are the majority of Canadians living paycheque-to-paycheque, but they have little ability to put money away for their retirement. The survey, released Monday, said 59 per cent of Canadians would have trouble making ends meet if they missed a paycheque.

"We were surprised that people were that close to the line," said Patrick Culhane, president and CEO of the not-for-profit association.

Culhane said those results are despite the common advice from financial planners that people should set aside three months of expenses for such items as rent, groceries and monthly bills, in case of an emergency.

Of those surveyed, the younger workforce felt the greatest pinch. The survey said 45 per cent of people aged 18-to-34 would be difficult or very difficult to make ends meet if a paycheque were delayed. Another 21 per cent in that age group said it would be somewhat difficult.

Not surprisingly, 72 per cent of single parents said missing a paycheque would cause a problem for meeting financial obligations.

If the clown visited this planet more often, he would have known.

  2. At least these Canadians don't have to worry about losing their health insurance, aye?

  3. This simply means that the operant conditioning expirement of the past 10 years converting Americans and Canadians from savings and equity minded producers into mindlessly trusting debt slaves has worked fabulously.

    Kudos to everyone involved.

  4. Canadians do loose their medical care. Politicians spend money on BS and then cut medical services instead of their salaries.

  6. Canadians are in bad shape. They may crash as hard as the USA. At least they aren't blowing billions on occupations and Empire.

  11. America hasn't crashed yet I live in an affluent suburb and night before last I hosted a young homeless couple for the night.
They where thrown out of a house they where renting because the owner had defaulted and they didn't know. The owner took their money
    and ran.

Last night, my next door neighbor removed all their possessions from their home in a hurry at midnight due to foreclosure.

The once 1/4 million house across the street from me was foreclosed and turned into section 8 housing by the bank.

My neighborhood is turning to crap fast.

About 50 % of my neighbors are unemployed.

    Yeah. Hasn't crashed.

Are there any news reports on TV about how bad things are now in Detroit? or Las Vegas?
    or LA? Or NYC?

    Nope.

Just like there where no protesters in Washington on Saturday.

  12. Trex...You've got your numbers messed up as most people do. The GDP in Canada is 60% consumer spending, 70% in the U.S. You are referring to something different. 80% of our exports ship to the U.S....not 80% of our GDP
