New Depression-Proof Weekly Report 1-24-2010

Wow, what a week we have just seen. Everything from a 500 point weekly drop in the DOW, the Democrats losing a historically democratic senate seat, slashed commodity prices, and even earthquakes around the world. It’s been tough to say anything else but wow, what a week! As far as the markets are concerned I know one thing, market volatility is likely here to stay. If you didn't you open up or your 401k at any point this week, you're a stronger person than me.

I’m certain we all heard the news about the President’s proposed regulation on the big banks to curb proprietary trading. On the surface, that idea may sound like a good one, but if we look deeper we might see the larger implications of such an act. Let me state first and foremost, I am NOT happy with these TARP wasting, greedy shysters we call “bankers”. The problem arises when a government steps into the private arena and forces its demands on a capitalistic marketplace. In fact, I would argue that the U.S. capitalistic market no longer even fits the meaning of the world Capitalism, but has moved into an arena called Corporatism.

  3. Hahaha...when the stock market goes up all of you here say its not an indication of economic recovery but when it goes down yes it is an indicator. Also when happened to gold price which all of you said here will go past $2,000 and also oil price which recently many of you said imminent price hike above $100. Where is the depression when car production soaring, shop sales growing at a rate not seen in almost a decade, home buying at a two-year high, unemployment down and fewer people defaulting on credit.

  4. 6:50 no doubt you are an administration bot, unless you can't read one article here..stuff even from the administration itself. Amazing how deep the lies go

  5. I know there are such things as disinfo Bots and the like but my guess is this fellow is just a deluded little prune living in his mother's basement.

  6. Banks shouldnt be allowed to trade like that that is what helped cause these problems and hell now they have an implicit govt backstop and get billions in easy money due to a fed zero interest rate even though they are doing nothing that helps the real economy. GS and them should be in prison for breaking the law pushing those MBS as safe when they knew they were toxic. Obama is just talking however and wont reign them in like he should. Its unbelievable how the Big Investment Banks are allowed to rape the middle class to line their pockets and then they give them a bailout when their crimes catch up to them ?

    RIGHT ON!

What we have here is a group of people (some who just like to hear themselves talk) who are so bent on the negatives of our economy that they have boarded themselves up and have stashes of food and ammo laying all around. Anti-socialist and on this page cynical antagonists. Whats at least great about this page is the fact I can see into their extreme side (this side) - while I also enjoy the other, the one where prosperity and profits reside. The reason so many people on this site fist fight yours and my prosperity and attitude is mainly because their resources have ran dry. They are hoarding up what little they can and refuse to accept the fact that by believing another way would mean most of them might have to go out and get a job of some sort. I mean for real here. Also I think this site is supported and ran by a group who somehow are of a much bigger picture. THE GOLD PONZI SCHEME! The big one that is going on right now. Its either that or they are selling a whole pile of seeds and freeze dried foods. In a way they have a great "nitch" in the mareket right now with this web presence. We are in a severe recession, they see a need, and they fill it. Perfect marketing. By the way who do you think pays for all the bandwidth here? They have to get the money somehow. A page like this can cost a good chunk to maintain monthly. Trust me, they could care less if the economy turns around and they suffer back lash from the cheerleaders who know most people that hover to this site are anti-government and anti-social. (you know the black helicopter type of people) LOL They really are milking the cow for all the milk she will deliver right now on this site for sure!

    buyer beware!

  9. Wrong. We would love to see the fake economy recover, good paying jobs, a nice future for our kids. Do you think anyone here wants an economic implosion? Of course not. Who would? Nonetheless, it is coming.

  10. May I suggest the EA to keep posting things in which he is good at such as Frozen coyote and hairless animal on daily weird. Leave the economy to people who knows what they are talking about instead of making a fool of yourself by posting crap.

  16. Come on kiddies. Everyone here should grow up. I will not be coming back to the comments. What a waste to read such dribble. It is a shame because much of it is worth a read.

  17. Bottom line is people that arent effected by the bad economy think it is getting better. People that have been effected and see no releif in sight think it is getting worst . It is all in the point of view. The trouble is there is alot more of us that are effected by this deppression than not

  18. 7:20, with an attitude like yours - "I'm doing great and anyone who isn't is just lazy" - you are personally headed for a rude awakening. You feel superior because you're not like all those unemployed people, and pride comes before a fall.

I've got news for you - My husband and I are both employed and practically debt-free, with investments and savings, and we are both under 50. We are also intelligent enough to see the reality of what's coming.

  19. Note how the bots or trolls always change the subject? This is part of their disinfo program. It doesn't work here kids, most of us live in reality, and know what is really going on.

Take your stupid comments to another blog, like CNN.

  20. This idiot @6:50 actually had the ignorance to state that home buying was at a 2 year high.

So much for that idiotic comment dickbag.

DOWN damn near 17 PERCENT !

It's at a 2 year high alright - with a 8k incentive - they STILL can't keep the SOB propped up!

Did anyone else just hear that loud crashing sound????

  21. I just read an interesting article on how the Obama administration is paying people to be internet trolls now, going around posting contrary views on websites such as this.

    Now you know.

The government is really that desperate now. They hire people to try and control the thinking of the readership away from any anti-government sentiment.

  22. Dear 4:55pm, I don't know if you'll read this, but I'd just like to say I feel sorry for you and your husband, about your investments and your savings. Truth be told, unless you convert your investments and savings into real holdings of the physical kind that you posses, you will be sheparded along with 10's of millions of others into Treasury paper and then default and it'll all be gone. That's what they are doing right now.

  23. Disinfo program? You need to grow up my child. Stop being so paranoid. Not everyone around you has an agenda just because their opinion is in disagreement with yours.

  24. 7:41, I embrace the implosion. While most of the posters here are satisfied with society/business as usual/the status quo/consumerism/and the ongoing ruin of the environment, as long as their stocks are not being affected and the police state is not getting too much more out of hand, I think it is high time for it to run further into the ground and die, for obvious reasons.

  25. The old saying that the sky is falling, it is correct. For the kids that are not paying attention, you had better have someone to fall back on,you will be standing in lines for the government to be feeding you (if they will). I am one of the horders, smart move I might say. I would rather have a LARGE STASH OF FOOD and all essentials that will be needed to survive than living in denial. I am in the 1% bracket that has everything paid off and not in debt because I do not live above my means. Buy non-hybrid seeds and start growing you own food also, canning your food is easy. Be prepared and you can survive, live in denial and you die be it starving or being shot and killed from the ones that have prepared for what ever is coming.
