April Retail Sales Weak

(Reuters) - Most top U.S. retail chains reported weaker-than-expected April same-store sales on Thursday, suggesting that Wall Street's hopes for a consumer rebound have gotten ahead of the actual pace of recovery.
Sales at stores open at least a year rose 0.5 percent in April, well short of Wall Street estimates of a 1.7 percent increase. Nearly 70 percent of 28 retailers tracked by Thomson Reuters disappointed, with the biggest misses seen among apparel retailers like Gap Inc (GPS.N) and teen chains like Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF.N).

  2. No the article blames an 'early Easter' which pushed seasonal sales back into March.

But if I recall, March had poor sales too- what gives?

  6. Nicely worded REUTERS. 'gotten ahead of the actual pace of the recovevy'.

    The recover is this:
1/2 million lay offs a week.
100's of thousands losing unemployment a week.

    Hmmmm.

  7. The truth is, despite the stimulus-funded giddyness on Wall Street (which is taking a tumble now too), Main Street is comatose. The 'recovery' has yet to trickle down to the Average Joe.

What do you think this is Greece?

Regardless of what 95% of the doomsayers whom post here would have you believe; this country -
as fucked up as it is; without a doubt is still the greatest economic machine ever built.

It will take years and years and years at the current pace to put us in a comprible situation & I ain't sayin' it ain't gonna happen - but those here who are just prayin' that the end is near ---------------------------------------

    Have a long, long wait.

  11. lol 4:25

Such a lack of consciousness to see this as being a long ways away. It already happened, now the illusion is just unveiling itself.

To even measure a current pace is ridiculous, this is accelerating, the pace keeps gaining momentum.

The pace 15 years ago would have required a decade to have this much change in, 3 years ago it would have taken a year or two, one year ago it would have taken months, now each week something is drastically altered (and not for the better).

The quality of life in the country alone as far as truly sane people, the meaning and purpose of existence, and moral integrity is so degraded that we have basically become living dead. Whether a total crash happens soon or not (which it will) our lives are already zapped of any substance. Why should one, being a doomsayer, be viewed as if they are being negative? Our current lives are so much more negative than any doomsday theory yet people have become so full of fear and ignorance that they don't even know why they are putting doomsayers down or understand why they want to live the way they do!

Most people like that would insist on going to work everyday, break their backs, watch taxes increase, lose their health as they gorge themselves in fast food, stare at a People Magazine in a grocery store, watch some television, go out to a club and get drunk as hell with a bunch of screwy people who they don't know at all, and at some point ask themselves, "I wonder what the meaning of my life is?"

... people would rather do that for years and years instead of have a crash which would give them virtue even if it means death.

Ask yourself why that is before using the term doomsayer on someone again.

  12. I do not have to as you have answered it yourself and do not even realize it.

Your 5th paragraph diatribe pretty much says it all.

    WTF
