Today the federal Minerals Management Service said five oil and gas production platforms in the gulf have been shut voluntarily because of the spreading spill. Together they produce 2,300 barrels of oil a day, or 0.14% of Gulf oil production, and 1.2 million cubic feet of gas per day, about 0.02% of gas output in the Gulf.
Update at 7:31 p.m. ET: NPR says it has obtained "sophisticated scientific analysis of seafloor video" showing that the oil gushing from the ruptured pipes is "closer to 70,000 barrels a day," more than 10 times the Coast Guard's earlier estimate of 5,000 barrels. That works out to 2,940,000 gallons of oil a day. (A barrel contains 42 gallons.)
If confirmed by the Coast Guard it would mean the spill long ago eclipsed the 11 million gallons the Exxon Valdez tanker spilled in Prince William Sound in Alaska in 1989.
Today is the 24th day since the blowout, so that would work out to more than 70 million gallons of crude oil that have poured into the Gulf — 70,560,000 to be exact.

Oil is already starting to make it to shore. Dead aquatic life will soon rise to the surface and then be washed to the shoreline. The gulf will represent a wasteland. Shoreline properties will become a joke. Soon you'll see a Marina, full of docked boats all floating in oil.

ReplyDeleteThe question of how much oil is flowing from this well is a political/profit question ,like Global warming there are various economic interests at stake . Billions of $$$ and lies can flow freely!
It is therefore difficult to see the true reality thru the propaganda as facts are managed and obscured with government connivance because of lobbying connections .
Up till now ,BP wants to save its well and profits by using simple cheap means like throwing own upside own kitchen sink devices in order to collect the oil and keep its profits flowing.
Shutting the oil flow down might -repeat -might be achieved by drilling adjacent relief wells to block the flows .But this is not certain or guaranteed and in any case will take months to try it out.
Then there is a possible nuclear “solution” that could also easily make things worse .
Perhaps ensuring a faster “Doomsday’ for the gulf or even a giant oil blow-out spreading throughout the whole worlds oceans.
In any case first you will get the oil in the gulf and then possible radiation and a possible huge instant blow-out as the pressure is released by new cracks in the strata now restraining the oil.
Current Propaganda is suddenly “official” that the oil flow is probably much worse than reported earlier.
This could be seen as today’s propaganda to justify getting ready the nuclear option?

At this rate we are looking at perhaps 9 million barrels of oil, or more, sloshing around in the gulf of mexico. What if they can not ever stop the flow? Just double the figure, quadruple, and so on...
This could also affect the rigs in the gulf. already we are seeing a few close down voluntarily.

The result was 3 million barrels of oil leaked out into the gulf. This was in only 50 ft of water, computer to 5,000 feet which is unprecedented.

The “official” actual flow from this blow-out may or may not reflect reality.
Some may have a financial interest in a high estimate flow and others a low .
The full real world effects of this oil blow-out are yet to be seen.

Deep water Drilling was permitted and proceeded on the assumption that should the environmental damage become to great in the event of an uncontrollable blow-out that there was always the assumed "guaranteed" ability of the military to shut down an out of Control blow out with nukes.
Because of the justified fear of nukes and radiation amongst the people this solution was never made public or talked about because it was politically unacceptable.
Should BP be unable to stop the leak first a good “show” must first be made so that the Nukes becomes politically acceptable.
The flow of the oil escaping is unknown, it may in fact be smaller or larger than the Official Guestimates being made ?
But in any case a climate of fear is created until the nukes solution becomes politically acceptable even a demand that nukes be used. Obama the Hero will then step in after making the ‘hard decision” to save the world with nukes and the military . To the applause of a relieved public.
But that may always simply have been the aim and the solution from the start?.

In any case, Jesus freak for one , has seen thru the politics/economics of the biological origin of oil scam but, this is not a matter of opinion or common sense . But of investigating this matter scientifically and such scientific knowledge exists for those who seek out knowledge and truth from facts.
Too much assumption here on the viability of the nuclear option. We dont know that this would not create greater problems in the leak itself, or cause other problems in the surrounding area.

I think you need to look A LOT deeper as far as the "biological oil scam". Again, way too much passing assumption made there. There is a reason they are spending gazillions of dollars just to extract a few extra barrels of hard to find oil to keep our gas guzzlers guzzlin'. The only conspiracy there is the people continuing to consume and enjoy this unsustainable way of life.

One third of the waters are to turn red, thick and congealed, and all living things that live on or in those waters are to die.
