GREENSBORO, N.C. — A hospital in Greensboro has seen unclaimed bodies stack up because family members can’t afford to pay burial costs.
WGHP-TV reported the morgue at Moses Cone Hospital has had 39 bodies go unclaimed by family members this year. That’s up from 15 in 2008 and 26 last year.
Hospital pathology director Theresa O’Laughlin says some families just lack the money for burial expenses that often mount into thousands of dollars. Other bodies are claimed after families collect a paycheck or tax refund.
Guilford County will pay for a bare-bones burial if the family can’t, at least until the local government runs out of money.
Economic hard times have meant mounting burial bills for counties across the country.

burn me and throw my ash in the ocean.
ReplyDeleteif these FEMA camps are actually real then people don't have to worry about burial costs because supposedly these camps have ovens to incinerate hundreds of corpse simultaneously.
ReplyDeleteThe accumulation of deceased dimwits is a national problem. We must have a solution. Perhaps we could grind up the corpses into food for pets and zoo animals. Or, boil them into a new limitless oil product to end our dependence on towelhead oil. Whoever comes up with the best use of worthless corpses will be an instant billionaire.
ReplyDeletebury that punk w bush alive face first
ReplyDeleteBush did not cause this.
ReplyDeleteThe real problem started when Henry Ford invented the assembly line for automobiles.
Get your facts straight buddy.
Soylent Green.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they donate them to the medical schools?
ReplyDeleteMy father died May 2010. His plot was paid for years ago next to his mother. But I still had to pay for a concrete crypt, headstone marker and dig hole etc = $3,750. The funeral with a metal coffin was $8,800. It looks like a traditional burial will run you at least $12,000. The funeral home told me many people now opt for cremation.
ReplyDeleteLike so many things, the burial industry is a rip off racket designed to prey on families at their most vulnerable time. This may be a strange opinion, but I think burial outfits are pariahs and worse than the lowest used car salesman.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to national health care, the law should have nationalized death care too, where the taxpayers pick up the tab for a tasteful funeral and burial or cremation.
What ever happened to Potter's Fields?
ReplyDelete10:25 You are indeed so MORBID!
ReplyDelete11:22 & 1:30 GOOD POINTS! DID YOU SEE WHAT IS GOING ON IT THE STATE OF LOUISIANA? THE FUNERAL INDUSTRY IS PAID OFF BY BIG BUCKS. THE POOR O.S.B. MONKS IN COVINGTON CAN'T SELL CYPRESS BUILD COFFINS. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO!
NOTE: WHAT I MEANT WAS FUNERIAL HOMES (INDUSTRY) HAS PAID OFF POLITICIANS! BUSINESS AS USUAL??
ReplyDeleteFROM 2:17
Corruption in Louisiana? You're out of line.
ReplyDeleteThe real problem started when Henry Ford invented the assembly line for automobiles.
ReplyDeleteActually, it started when humans began losing their pigmentation. It all went downhill from there. Thanks to the "white" people, the human species will soon be extinct. The god damned aliens should have left the pigment in. I told them this would happen. They wouldn't listen. They're a bunch of know it alls as you could well imagine.
Corruption in Louisiana? You're out of line.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is.
Why don't we use them as biofuel and help the green economy.
ReplyDeleteProp them up and hang a Halloween Haunted House over the door for the month, charge ten bucks a head, take the proceeds and bury them the first of November.
ReplyDeleteI kinda go along the line of the 1st post.
ReplyDeleteWhy not come up with some sort of national plan like cremation and bury at sea?, or just a deep sea burial, in mass for those not claimed, too poor, or just don't care for a dirt hole. I'd go along with it as I wont have anybody around that would care anyway or waste time taking care of a over priced plot.
I got organ donor on my license, so what ever is left will be ashes anyway.
Life is all about nothing as it is.
I think cremation is the best way to go. Why really should we try to preserve the dead it makes no sense they turn to ash anyway eventually.. It does not harm the person once you are dead the harm is already done. I know it is a personal matter. But there is no need for the expensive burials where many profit on death. I say don't give them the money. When it gets to the point where we need to take out loans $13,000 to bury someone something is wrong with that picture..
ReplyDelete10:25 you are one sick person.. You need help.. What you said is not funny.. It's asinine.. This is not a joking matter.
ReplyDelete12:27...
ReplyDeleteSoylent Green... IS PEOPLE!
.
To Dave: I am "sick".... in case you don't know, the dead do not feel, see, or hear. They are gone, leaving just a flesh husk. funerals are nothing more than a ruse for the living. Grow up. Perhaps when you die, I can stuff you into a giant meat grinder and finally get some use out of you. Worthless scum.
ReplyDelete10:25 you are one sick psychopath. Someone who just lost someone should ripped your worthless head off before your disease thinking spreads like the cancer.
ReplyDeleteTo 10:58... I am a "sick psychopath"? Of course I have lost loved ones. Why is it that closed minded fools resort to name calling and threats when they are confronted by something that they can't fathom. Oh well, another midget mind destined for my meat grinder. Your corpse will keep many animals at the shelter alive. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI thought the comments were supposed to be
ReplyDeletecivilized? I am being cremated. If they can use
organs take them. I am not allowing my family to
buy fancy urns etc. I live by the ocean scattered them on the water. i believe that 'from dust we came and to dust we return'. I feel sorry for people who are stuck paying huge funeral bills. I belong to a non profit burial society and have already paid for my cremation etc. My family know this and that is it has all being arranged and paid for. Once you are dead you are gone. I believe that the soul is released. The body is the shell and why bother to preserve it?"To live in the hearts of those you love is to live forever".
9:29 Your the kind that deserves to be flushed down the toilet. The dead are to be treated with some respect. You view is coming from a person who got no hugs from mommy. You think you sound cool or funny you don't you sound completely asinine. Who knows you could be a serial killer for all we know. Either way I am ready for your types don't get too cocky.
ReplyDeleteTo the others I am sorry I need to talk this way to the sick psychopath who has no respect for the dead, but it seems the only way this kind can understand.
Dave... Cool? Funny? You idiot. Just because I have a different view than yours, you try to demean me with insults. I remember my loved ones in my MIND, so I don't have to trudge to a gravesite and pretend to cry. You do what you do, I will do what I do. I will be waiting for you at the mouth of the meat grinder. It will be a pleasure to slide your half rotted carcass into the shredding teeth.
ReplyDelete10:25 IS right-on. If you can afford and want
ReplyDeletea burial for your loved-ones, fine. Burial at
sea, fine. Urn, fine. I like to go to my fathers
grave even though I know hes with me everyday.
(how do I know? because a medium told me things
only he knew about) If people dont want the husks, let them be given away just like organs.
WTF you people getting hot over husks when soon
we will have to figure out how to stay ALIVE and
keep our families ALIVE. Get your shit straight.
4:26pm I have no problem with a person having his or her own viewpoint it's your grotesque manner and lack of respect of the dead which is the problem. That originates in the asinine. When your time comes close you may reconsider your "viewpoint".. till then keep creeping around jack ass..
ReplyDelete10:11am a medium is a person in touch with demons not dead loved ones. so you are being deceived. The dead are just that dead they cannot communicated they no longer exist. To allow demons to give you advice or to be entertained by them is extremely dangerous. I would reconsider this.
ReplyDelete10:20 thanks for your polite advice. I did it once, enough. But you make my point for me...
ReplyDeleteyen/yang, dark/light, action/reaction...if
there are demons, there are angels and heaven.
cant have one without the other. the husk is
dead, the spirit lives on. religions are like
spokes in a wheel leading to the hub
5:45pm, It's good to see you realize what a medium is all about.. They are dangerous.. The husk/spirit.. Well the spirit is dead as well when one dies that is what death is. A person dies completely according to the Bible that is the condition of a person when they stop breathing. Religion like a spoke in a wheel no I don't think so. God again according to the scriptures is one exacting exclusive devotion. He is quite particular as to what he accepts as worship. That eliminates any possibility of the hub illustration from having any validity. It's just someones clever idea to make all ideas acceptable in their own mind. But as far as legit no it isn't. In fact take a look at the first 6 commandments of the 10 commandments and it leaves no room for other forms of worship. There was only one acceptable to God. That would mean all others at that time were unacceptable. So if someone tried to apply the hub illustration back then they would find it was just not true all pagan beliefs unacceptable. A Jealous God tolerates no other rivals false gods. That's basically the concept in a nutshell..
