55% Say Economy Still in Recession or Depression

A pair of recent Gallup Polls shows distinct loss of confidence in the US economy. The first poll shows Americans' Economic Confidence at the 2011 Low. A second poll shows 55% still think the economy is in a recession, or worse.

Please consider Americans' Economic Confidence Declines Further
Gallup's Economic Confidence Index dropped to -39 in the week ending April 24 -- a new weekly low for 2011. This continues a downward trend that began in mid-February. The current deterioration of confidence contrasts sharply with the improving trend found at this time a year ago.

Optimism About Economic Outlook Drops to 2011 Low

Slightly more than one in four Americans said the economy is "getting better" last week. This measure has been declining since mid-February, and is now at its 2011 low. Far fewer Americans currently feel the economy is improving than held that expectation a year ago, when 41% said things were getting better.

  1. well you do realize that if Americans really knew how bad things are economically, there would be uprisings and widespread civil unrest.
The media has taken on the task to preserve society and to keep a lid on it by hyping a so called recovery.
Of course if you enjoy living in a mad max world or water world or road warrior world then you will be happy with what is to come.

  5. 12:43,

seeing you're the only person who made a real comment here, let me try and offer to you a different perspective.

"well you do realize that if Americans really knew how bad things are economically, there would be uprisings and widespread civil unrest.

Let me first say, even though at times riots and such in thought, appear to be solutions, they are not. The riots that already are occuring worldwide, and in America, are mostly young Communists being commanded to break property and accomplish absolutely nothing.

Violence likewise, does not work. To just go shoot up a bunch of bankers like many wish to see happen, would only result in a violent revolution where the new society will be even worse.

As far as Mad Max and other scenarios like it are concerned, we already are bordering that. The only difference between Road Warrior and us now is that we're not in a wasteland.

Think about it. Kids as young as 10 using drugs, girls as young as 12 being used as whores. Porn, strip clubs, alcoholism, the sinking of intelligence due to an excess of entertainment and mind numbing electronics, and brutality like hit and runs (just one of many examples) - viewed altogether show that we in the western world have become savage barbarians.

Combine that with a fake economy that's been dead for perhaps decades, based on nothing except debt and retail stores (with imported items and goods), and it becomes ostensible that "this world has ended."

We are in the new Dark Age. What will become of this is decades, perhaps even a century or longer, of no direction. We'll have individuals coming up with great new ideas or systems of thought on their own. Various scientists might make penetrations into the nuclear energy and confirm the "subtle force", allowing us to start cultivating the stars as a way of food and energy, travel past the Solar System, and eventually give way for "time warping" rather than the "space warping" age we currently live in.

Existing simultaneously; the nations, economies, cultures, schools, and religions will face increasing turbulence and will never find substantial stability AGAIN. This will lead to humanity being collectively apathetic, careless, unmotivated, and in constant uncertainty.

Each generation within a family will have no choice but to stay together under one roof (or tribe) due to the lawlessness of society and absence of financial order.

Crime will increase because of the desperation among people, the lack of purpose and morality, and a decrease in police (broke states = no state and city workers). This of course leads to a split in a society; the criminals versus the family oriented types that want peace.

If you can visualize all of this, there is no "EVENT". We've already crashed, now it's just unwinding. This is what happened after Rome fell, the gig was up, the "eastern empire" didn't really feel obliged to continue being Roman so they named themselves the Byzantine Empire. Barbarian tribes, Greeks, Latins, and the Moors all felt the world had lost its purpose and direction. Scholars in science/philosophy and religion couldn't come to any collective way of declaring a "truth", and there was very little order and certainty anywhere in Europe. Hence - The Dark Ages.

There will be no hero, no recovery, no great American come back... it's over. God's Spirit over this universe has decided it's time to change. We are the honorable souls incarnated at this time to carry the burden and lay the foundations of the new way.

  6. Perhaps, since you my friend are the only one who has the intellect to comment a response with such careful thought i would like to return the favor.

True everything you said speaks from well seasoned life experiences.
    But one thing you and many others with great knowledge are not preparing for and what must come to pass before we evolve is;
A total and complete economic/societal collapse world wide.
Anarchy will in itself create a new order.
With the current existing order of things such as debt, pay bills, earn wage, to create debt to pay bills, we will witness a very slow decay of society, as you have stated so well, with a non-defined end rather just a slip into an eternal dark age mentality.
I rather would prefer the NEW order of things to come about as quickly as possible.
As one sits in the dentist chair with a decayed tooth, "remove it quickly" so as not to endure that pain much longer.
And truly i pray it comes sooner then later for everyone's sake.

  9. Perfect wording:
Pity the young. The twittering twits.
Twittering twits BEST describes the 20 somethings:
we must send them off to fight wars so their character can be defined otherwise they will be forever and ever twittering twits!
