Half of Last Month's New Jobs Came from a Single Employer — McDonald's

According to the unemployment data released this morning, the economy added only 54,000 jobs, pushing the unemployment rate up to 9.1 percent. However, this report from MarketWatch suggests the data is much worse than that:

McDonald’s ran a big hiring day on April 19 — after the Labor Department’s April survey for the payrolls report was conducted — in which 62,000 jobs were added. That’s not a net number, of course, and seasonal adjustment will reduce the Hamburglar impact on payrolls. (In simpler terms — restaurants always staff up for the summer; the Labor Department makes allowance for this effect.) Morgan Stanley estimates McDonald’s hiring will boost the overall number by 25,000 to 30,000. The Labor Department won’t detail an exact McDonald’s figure — they won’t identify any company they survey — but there will be data in the report to give a rough estimate.

If Morgan Stanley is correct, about half of last month's job growth came from the venerable fast-food chain. That is hardly the sign of a healthy economy.

  5. 6:16: Poor people are obese generally because garbage food is much cheaper. If you are poor and/or overworked you will be in bad shape, and then you will have health problems as well, which will keep you poorer.

That's why most of the rest of the world has mandatory vacations and caps work hours. Americans are the best sheep in the world. Even India has tons of holidays in place for their workers. Indian workers do work a lot for cheap, but they still also have their standards...standards America doesn't.

Watch for more stock market pumping this week after the bloodletting of the past week. We'll have a brief run-up but then I think we are totally finished. The collapse is likely by the end of June.

    Interesting point(s) 9:53.

Though Americans may have jobs that aren't as brutal as certain places in Asia, South America, and Africa, we still happen to be among the most miserable.

Compare the way slaves in the cotton fields used to sing out loud happily while they worked. They were well fed of course, but cotton picking in that way was borderline torture!

Why is it now that when you go to any place where people work in the USA, be it a grocery store or an office, you can seldom find a smile on someone's face? The conditions are drastically easier than picking cotton in the 1800s.

How is it that children have more today than ever before, but they are more bored than ever before?

The above proves that poverty is not equal to misery, and entertainment is not equal to happiness.

To me this is whacky. I'm 24, and I can still remember being 9, when nintendo 64 came out and my friends would come over and play this all day. The Mario Kart game kept us quite happy. If not inside, we'd walk about the neighborhood pretending we were soldiers, holding imaginary guns. For hours...

My sister's kids never leave the house. They sit inside watching Disney or playing the internet. Most of their friends do pretty much the same. They're always bored, or they get furious if they can't watch Nick shows. When the TV goes off they just mope around aimlessly. And it seems every 30 minutes a crying spell breaks out.

My father tells me how he never had TV, but instead thought his toy cannon was the coolest thing in hell. He never got bored either!

Does it not become perspicuous as to why this country is filled with vacant buildings, useless shit, drugs and booze, mental health clinics, suicidal teenagers, trashy schools and scam universities, obesity, and citizens that don't read or think?

  8. Amerikkans have been super sized in their bodies, and dumbed down in their minds, companies like Mc D are the biggest perpetraitors of this. Walmart is another as they have Poisonous MC D in their China made goods store as they kill and poison their customers (sheep).

  9. How cheap corn and coca cola fed Americans became fattened addicted cash cows by big business while spending their money on "light" foods:

‘In the late 1960′s the US, through conventional hybridization techniques, succeeded in creating new types of corn, dramatically increasing yield per acre by reducing the space required per plant as well as increasing the number of ears per stalk. This development was seen as a phenomenal opportunity for the nation with the world’s greatest capacity of corn production. All that was needed was a way to increase demand for corn. Although shifting the Western diet to grits was not likely there were other options.
Corn fed hogs and Chicken would now become less expensive to produce in confined animal feeding operations which would later proliferate. But due to the inherent inefficiency of converting grain calories into animal calories the development of processed foods that use corn itself and not animal products would be far more profitable than selling pork or chicken.
Corn syrup and corn syrup solids had seen their uses multiply under the post WWII “better living through chemistry” paradigm. Now they would also be much cheaper to produce. In 1973, Richard Nixon’s Secretary of Agriculture, Earl Butz, altered US farm policy to permanently subsidize the increased production of corn, opening a new era in which corn-based processed foods would become far cheaper than their rivals. The convenience and fast food industries were poised to take off. Soft drinks that cost pennies to produce could be marketed at fantastic profit. Corn derivatives would find their way into virtually every processed food”…
